I thought that also but in NZ last year I rented a Sprinter camper van with a Thetford cassette toilet. Wasn't too thrilled when I saw that in the specs but it turned out to be great and with one qualification, I'd prefer it over the black water tank. It's so easy to use. If there's numerous dumps it's so simple to pull out the casette and walk over to the dump site, no hooking up required. The only reservation I had is if the sealing mechanism failed it could be quite a problem. It worked well for the two weeks that I had it but long term could be an issue.

You can also use the bath for #1 only and do your #2 in the campground bathroom. Then you just have yellow water instead of black water. Makes those night time trips easy and clean up easy. Also I do think I would want to shower outside and some campgrounds would have a problem with it.

Ever seen a kid dancing around outside the outhouse at a campground, waiting for the current occupant to vacate?
