What should be a fair market value of a 19'

Hello everyone,

Not sure this is the right place to ask, so let me know if I am erring

I inspected a 5 year old Escape 19', and it seems in good condition. The owner is eying a 21' and may be willing to sell. We may be willing to buy.

So I have 2 questions:

1 - What should be a fair market value for it?

2 - In case we get a good incentive to buy it, what should we be looking at, past the usual like tire status, cleanliness, dents, etc.

There are two prices actually. What the sellar wants and what it's worth to you to own it. When you reach an agreement, you both win. Check the For Sale forum here and check the year and options for comparison.

AND, when was the last time you saw an Escape 19' (of any year) for sale in your (reasonable) driving area? How long are you willing to wait for another to show up?

Remember, one thing you can never, ever get back is time. Make memories as soon as you can and often!

If the seller agrees, and we find the price acceptable, this is a win win situation. And if not, we may have to wait a year to get a new one from Canada at the full price . Hmmmmmm!

Coming up with a "market value" for these trailers is tuff because there just are not a lot for sale to use as comparables

I would assume that is the same 19' that I looked at. (can't be 2 near Loveland?) It's an early model 19 that is in very good shape. The owner is looking to get nearly what he paid for it and it's probably worth that if you are fine with the features.

He has a couple thousand dollars invested in things that I didn't care to pay for and was missing some things that I'd prefer. I'll wait the 10 months and have it my way; but if the features work for you, I'd snag it.

Do not forget the cost of delivery in making your decision. An Escape within your state versus a new one may still be worth the cost of a delivery fee. Again, build your self your ideal 2014 19' on line, compare prices with the 5 year old unit and make your decision. I sold my new Escape 19' for basically it's cost minus the delivery fee which I had paid to have it shipped here on the east coast.
I had also installed many upgrades. But with the new 21' incentives available then it was worth the upgrade. Basicially I was out the sales taxes. In addition, time of year, you will pay more now than in the fall. Remember it does not hurt to make an offer less than the asking price.

The owner of the Escape in question is Edgar in Johnstown. Same one? Please let me know what was his asking price.

It is and we didn't get that far. I'd really prefer to build one without a bathroom and I don't camp in places where A/C would be possible or necessary. Solar, more cabinets, and counter space are much more appealing to me.

Edgar was very gracious in showing his Escape 19. It was obvious that it was worth more to him than it would have been to me. We thanked him and ordered one the way we preferred.

I do not think ETI will make a 19' without a bath. You would really be limiting any resale value without a bath model. As far as those other requirements, you may be able to get a new 19 without a stove and no a/c and probably dual solar.

Actually, they will and they have already have made several. You can even get the external shower without a bathroom, which sounds downright decadent and ideal for us. I'll post my build sheet and logic behind the choices whenever Escape opens up orders on 2015s. I'm looking to build a trailer that meets the needs for my wife and I. Our daughters can deal with the resale value (or lack, thereof).

You can get an ETI trailer built without a stove. But, they won't run the propane lines and cap them under the counter. It's either stove or no stove and no extra capped lines.

My trailer is going to be an estate problem for my daughter. I'm having mine built for me, not resale. YMMV

What works for you now may not work so well later.

We got our Escape 17b because I was tired of waking up in the middle of the night, crouched over in a tent, looking for a flash light and making my way to the out house.

I know it isn't legal to tandem tow in a lot of area's, but this could be an alternative.

I'm alread old, you mean it gets worse? Beats the alternative, I guess.

My wife and I spent a few decades backpacking, moved to car camping, then the T@B, and probably an Escape. We don't agree about much; but "I'm not cleaning or living with the #$%^ing the thing" is something we can agree on.

I didn't mean to divert the thread. Edgar has a very nice trailer. If the features match what you want, you should be able to work something out.

One could also figure out a way to utilize a plastic bag in the toilet (without flushing it of course), and have the privacy, convenience and not have to deal with the cleaning. Also a tightly sealed container until the bags could be dumped would be helpful.
However, if one is careful, there is not much to the cleaning. Using good toilet preparations;gray water flushing and the ice cube wash has worked well for me.

My Scamp has a full bathroom, I'll never own another trailer without one. And yeah, those middle of the night trips are so much easier than heading for the bushes or a shower house.

I've yet to see a solution to waste disposal that is easier, more convenient and less work than the black tank and stinky slinky.
