If using a personal check, I would think that you write it in Chilliwack and that would have nothing to do with these restrictions, would it?

Some people may have settled up with a personal check but I don't think they want them for that. No problem if making a deposit or a payment though.

That would be the simplest solution!

The restrictions on carrying cheques would really only matter to people using things like certified cheques.

To settle the final amount, the exchange rate would need to be known. With a personal cheque, they may not find out what exchange rate is applied until the cheque has cleared, which could take a while. The delay wouldn't matter for a deposit or partial payment.

I was thinking more in terms of the check needing to clear. I think they give an instruction on what kind of payment to show up with if picking up. They have plenty of time to see if a check is good if it is only an earlier payment.

Your replies have been enlightening, informative, and much appreciated.
I now have a plan and procedure: We'll see if the Credit Union will issue a check in $CD made out to the payee
and declare it at customs.

On the ETI build sheet:

**Please note personal cheques must be received two months prior to the trailer completion for processing. The final balance is due within 30 days of the trailer's completion.

Sort of contradicts each other, 60 day in advance to process, but only 30 days for final payment? I have always used personal checks in my 3 purchases, using regular mail, tried the wire and certified route and it took way longer. As long as it clears before pick up or delivery I was fine. I allowed 15 days between mailing and Escape crediting my build sheet which seemed to work, as Donna says YMMV.

All I know is what ETI states themselves on my build sheet.

Not really a contradiction - your final payment at 30 days just can't be a personal cheque.
