Where did you get a check in Canadian money?

We are about to order a 19. But I cant figure out how we are going to pay in Canadian currency.
Our credit union doesn't exchange money; a couole of local banks do, but only for account holders.
How did you get a check in Canadian currency?

You can send a check in US currency - when you order ETI will send instructions about various ways to send payment.

All of our payments were US checks sent via Fedex, and ETI let us know the exchange rate that we got when they deposited them.

and you can also put down a deposit via your credit card, on the phone, up to a limit...

If I remember correctly, the limit on credit card transactions was $3000 CDN, which would cover your deposit. We used our credit card for the deposit, but at that time the deposit was only $500 CDN.

We have money in a Fidelity account. They said they can convert the USD to CAD and wire the CAD to the ETI account. They claim to have very competitive rates. I will do this when the time comes to pay.

I had a bad experience with XE.com. I thought they could provide the best exchange rates.
It took weeks of effort to set up an account and provide documentation for a credit check, then I needed to provide proof that I had the funds to cover the amount of the transaction. Their web site leads you to believe that they can pull funds from your bank account and deposit directly into ETI's accounts. They can, but only after you've committed to a transaction do they tell you that this is limited to only $5000. The last straw was when they wanted me to transfer the full amount of the funds from my account to their bank account. The whole deal started to really smell fishy. I walked away.

We did use a wire transfer and sent the money directly from my bank account to ETI's account. ETI's bank exchanged our USD to CAD at 1.286. At that time, the internet rate was published close to 1.304. I thought we received a good exchange rate.

My advice is to keep it simple. Like others do, send a check in USD directly to ETI. If it is over, they will return any amounts not needed. If you still owe a small amount, you can settle up later.

I had absolutely none of the issues with XE.com that are mentioned above. It was easy for me to set up the account (although I had to jump through a few hoops to get the correct account info from ETI) and to make the transactions.

We gave ETI a personal check for the deposit and sent by fed-x a cashiers check for the balance when the build sheet was due. All was in US funds and ETI will give you about as good of an exchange rate as you can get anywhere. Loren

I used a credit card for the deposit, a personal check for majority of the balance, and the credit card again to cover any remainder. ETI's exchange rates were as good as any.

The only thing I'd do differently is use Fed Ex or similar for the personal check. USPS and Canada Post were incredibly slow, I'd have been happier if I could track it.
