A New Way To Slingshot

I have often carried a slingshot along for fun. It is relatively small and light. This new concept to the old idea is very intriguing. Lots of videos on the site. I like the use of arrows too.

I do wonder about using stones, which is my preferred ammo, and whether they would add excessive wear. Sure the ball shot is more accurate, but it costs money, and always runs out.

I use gum balls as ammo. They don't hurt anything, cause I never hit anything.

That was the idea. If my neighbour found one in his yard, he'd think a kid dropped it. I kept them in the freezer to stiffen them up.

I was going to say I'd put up my Wrist Rocket against that anytime but then I watched the video. Unless they faked the video the accuracy seems to be surprisingly good.

I have a couple of wrist rockets and clones. I also have a very old Victor fiberglass model made by the animal trap company of the same name. I always used 1/4 or 3/8 inch lead balls but those have fallen from grace environmentally. Marbles used to fly pretty true also. When I need to make a squirrel move from his perch high in a hickory tree, out comes the flipper.
Used to use surgical tubing from the medical supply store for rubber and cut up a worn out billfold for a leather shot pocket. Wish I was 12 again.

Did anyone ever use a pea shooter as a child? I could hit a neighbor's window across my alley with one. Not quite as dangerous as a arrow shooting slingshot. Our slingshots used bicycle tire rubber between home made grips.What about taking a roller skate apart and attaching it to a 2x4 and making a true skate board.

Well I'm not 12 anymore but I still use surgical tubing out of habit. Seems to perish quicker these days. We could share a shoe, I use the tongue for the shot pocket.

Hmm, instead of horseshoes etc. maybe a different type of competition at a rally.

Yes to all those. Sometimes thinking back on childhood I marvel that any boys live to adulthood AND have both eyes. We used to have matchbook duels, you would hold the matchbook in one hand, the match on the striker with the opposite index finger and flick it so that it lit and few at your buddy. And then there was playing paratrooper jumping off garage roofs. Only one buddy broke his leg....

When I was growing up as a kid, they would have band concerts on the streets of the small Iowa towns on Saturday nights. The bandstand was a portable affair on wheels that would be set up on the street.

One night the clarinet player had his back to us with his bald head and several of us kids had just gotten pea shooters at the dime store. There it was, the perfect target for practice. Iowa Dave can probably relate to all of this. Loren

We would slide under the fence at Padenzky's junk yard and appropriate a couple car antennas and disassemble them. Then we would find a leaky grain car that spilled out soy beans which we'd store in a bread wrapper ( wax paper in those days ). We called them bean shooters and fired away with reckless abandon at the kids foolish enough to buy specific pea shooter peas. Then there were water balloons, Steelie marbles, M80's and the king of the hill, Zip guns. Lucky indeed.

Lucky indeed just begins to cover it. To think that I thought rubber bands would be enough to keep the hammer from coming backwards, didn't learn about equal and opposite reaction until later. And to think that I thought glue would be OK to hold a wooden plug in place in a fire cracker gun. Man, I was a dumb but lucky kid.

Jeeze...I thought us Newark, NJ city mutts were tough but you midwesterners almost remind me of home in the 60S. I'm gonna look up sling shots and the like, get on board and see if Judy and I can have as much fun youse guys. We're from Austin now so after some practice those javelinas had better scatter when we pull into that remote campsite ;-]
