Not the same but it reminds me of when we were driving towards the Moki Dugway back in the early 80's. We were wondering how the road went up as the map just showed a straight line. We though maybe its a tunnel. If you have never been on it it is quite an interesting drive up. I could not imagine going down it.

Love it, Jim! A Long-Long Trailer sighting is almost as much fun as an Escape Sighting..........

long, long trailer
I love how the great '53 Merc can switch back and forth into a lincoln.
In 1965 I considered for a short time to tow a 1954 37' Schult trailer from Minot to California with a '53 Chevrolet 6 cyl, Guess I woke up and instead towed a stuffed VW convert with a '55 Ford pick-up 6 cyl. Experience to lead to maturity.

Hi: azjack... They probably blew the engine in the Merc. and could only find a Lincoln to finish the filming. Is it a 3 spd manual on the tree?
I wouldn't mind a Lincoln...but I have a Cadaract!!! Alf

We used to tow with a Lincoln it had a truck transmission and a huge engine towed a two horse trailer like it was nothing up and down the mountain. My dad tried towing with our convertible mustang very scary! He would tow with anything lost our brakes towing a boat down mount Shasta once we didn't have or wear seat belts so he said hit the floor and brace yourself! Stopped by using a side road

That scene was on the Whitney Portal Road. It is certainly much, much easier with a 17' Escape towed by a Honda Pilot. But the views are really spectacular.
The movie always reminds me of what my parents went through to get us to California. When I was 1˝ yrs. old (I remember sooo well!), they towed a 27 ft. house trailer, with a 1940 Ford, from Buffalo, NY to Los Angeles. This was when all the highways (in particular, US-66) were two lane.
