Back when furniture was made out of solid wood. And almost everything was made in America.

Not any of our homes, but that is an exact replica of my grandmother's house in Stockton,Ca.(circa 1957). That was before the gov't imposed imminent domain and needed her backyard to build I-5.

That checkerboard Armstrong tile wore like Well brake shoes cause they were both made of asbestos, and those sink traps were easy to get at when they got stopped up. No running water at Grandmas unless it was "run and get me a bucket of water". Chicken dinner was pretty fresh back then too.

Yup and my Grannies well water was so hard. She kept rain barrels for soft water.

Mine had hundreds of chickens. When one was suspected on being a non-layer it was put in a separate cage. No eggs, Sunday dinner. Now, if you want to keep chickens in the big city, that's not allowed. It has to go to a sanctuary.

Oregonians are real big on having chickens in the city. Roosters aren't allowed however.

My neighbors had chickens and I thought they were great--and wouldn't have minded even a rooster--until I had a rat problem that cost $4000 to fix.

I remember in the early fifties walking 10 blocks with my granny to the fresh-kill store where you picked your live chicken. Busy place. They had sawdust on the floor, guys in white aprons and about ten chicken-funnels.

I remember going to my grandparents house in Pasadena as a kid . They had a property going up the side of mountain with gardens and fruit trees , and up at the top the chickens . Grandpa said he wouldn't ever buy store bought chickens . I watched grandma clean the chicken . I won't go into detail here . He also had a cellar on the property and made his own wine . They were immigrants from Italy and grew and made everything themselves. Grandma's kitchen was big and bright and that is some of my best memories . Grandma lived in her kitchen it seemed . Pat
