Best and Worst States to Make a Living?

Found this article at Business Insider to be interesting. Ranks the ten best and ten worst States in the US to make a living. Of course, it's an economic study, and doesn't take into account other factors:

Imagine that was done prior to the oil collapse which would definitely move several of the top states near the bottom currently.
Arizona didn't make either of the lists. Good to be in the middle somewhere, I guess.

Don't tell anyone how nice it is up here! We want everyone to think we are miserable in the cold and wet!

Yah, so my sister in WA keeps reminding me; no state income tax and she can deduct her mortgage costs

I tell her she can't leave her house and be skiing 15 minutes later and then go kayaking later.

Washington is the most beautiful state I've lived in without a doubt. However, sales taxes on the left side hover at or near 10% and my real estate taxes will exceed $5,000 this year. The trick is to live just across the river from Oregon. Shop there and live here (not that I'd personally ever try to avoid paying my fair share of taxes mind you).

We love living in Washington, too. There is (at least) one 'gotcha' on taxes -- if you're self-employed, you DO pay income taxes -- under another name. The Business and Occupation (B&O) tax rate is, depending on your profession, just as costly as income taxes in many states. I have hit upon a solution: retirement! Any day now.

Like your plan Doug and Sue! I also love the table in Toto and thinking of doing the same.

Hi: drpaddle... Sorry to burst your bubble... but here we still get hit on pension income!!! Less "Bite" but same "Pain". It's a full time job just trying to keep your hard earned pensions... Take it from me. No wait there's not enough!!! Alf
