BlackJack is gone.....
but not forgotten. Without a camper and until ETI can ramp up production in the new facility and make "Prairie Schooner" I have a new distraction to take my mind off camping. A new 2016 Mustang GT with the track performance package. I had a 1966 Mustang ann now 50 years later, another one. I'm hoping to travel to Mustang meets as well as a rent some time at a local road course track. Look at the size of the 6 piston Brembo pads and rotor on the wheels....these are summer only Pirelli Zero tires, not to be used below 45 degrees, Torsen independent rear end and a "track" mode where the front brakes can be locked and the rear tires are released for tire burnouts, 6 speed standard shift with reverse lockout.
Now if I can just find a hitch............

WOW Jim! You are going to have a blast. Back in the late 60's I had a '55 Chev. that was all tricked out; 4 bbl Holly carb, Edlebrook manifold, glass packs, tuck and roll interior. It screwed up the tv reception when I drove over to Debbie's house. Be safe, but have a lot of fun You earned it!

That's the thing about retirement--you can pretty much get what you want. Enjoy. Will the Black Pony have a place to hibernate during your Pennsylvania winters?

Hi: cpaharley2008... I think I still have some bumper stickers left over that state..."I'm driving as fast as I can a Ford". I had them made when our gas price was nearing $5./Liter!!! They also applied to Police fast lane charges too!!!
Instead of ethanol does it use Nitro? Alf

Jim, Enjoy the Mustang. The Brembos are nice because as the saying goes, with plenty of go you need plenty of whoa.

Nice, Jim. Just keep in mind that the new one is much faster than the old one (assuming that the 1966 was anything close to stock)... double the power so half the 0-to-60 time, and the new one has suspension and tires better than any 1966 race car. The electronic nannies help but you still need to keep up with the car.

I'm guessing it's just like your 66, except it will stop when you step on the brakes

Well, that plus it can take a corner without feeling like a boat....

... and go faster (in top speed), burn less fuel, start every time in any condition, ride comfortably, be quiet, drive for a decade with no maintenance other than fluids and filters (and those tires you burn off), stabilize itself when you mess up, vary braking to each wheel independently, adjust power itself (each rear wheel separately) to control wheelspin, open and close windows with power, lock and unlock itself wirelessly and automatically...
The same description applies to virtually every model of car from every manufacturer.
They don't make cars like they used to... fortunately.

True enough Brian, but there is a certain nostalgia about driving an older car - everything feels more raw and basic. A simpler machine, from a simpler time.

I completely get that. We still own (but haven't driven lately) a Triumph Spitfire, which makes a 1966 Mustang look big and perhaps even luxurious. Few people actually seem to want simplicity, because you can't sell a new car without all the toys, and most people with the old ones modify everything about them.
Anyway, my point was just that the new one won't be much like the old one. If you could still buy a Ford Ranger (preferably base trim level with V6), that would be much more like an original Mustang (as long as you don't look at it).
