I also love the Helinox Chair (mine is the Chair One). For how small they are, they are amazingly comfortable, more so than the usual ubiquitous foldup kind.

I am awaiting my Go Chairs from an Indiegogo campaign which look to be even smaller.

Not much storage space in a 17B! For a few trips I hauled along my zero gravity chair and got tired of moving it back and forth from the aisle to the outdoors to under the trailer in case of rain to back inside in the aisle...

another chair we really like, especially for grab-n-go away missions

incredibly light, very compact, assembles and packs quickly, and surprisingly comfortable for us 220+ lbers. not /too/ low to the ground, but they can be a chore to stand up from if your knees are shot.

We have a 19 and I don't like storing chairs inside so prefer a chair that folds into a tube that will fit through the rear compartment door or into the front exterior storage bin. They are light enough to carry and can be quickly and easily set up and put away. Unfortunately, my wife finds them uncomfortable especially across the back of the thighs.

The reality is we use the zero gravity style chairs as they are the most comfortable but must store them in the truck bed while travelling. If you go this route try to find a light weight model.

the zero gravity chairs I've seen that were light have been rather flimsy. the sturdy ones are rather heavy, and they are also quite bulky.. and they are strictly lounge chairs, they are no good for sitting at a table, for instance.

(digs into photo album....) Oh, Look! ZG lounger, Lafuma low chair, AND the Macabee's

These look like another clone of the Helinox chairs! Seems that there are several very similar chairs out there now.

Finding the right chain for camping is such a personal preference, I have a bad back so that rules out the hammock chairs as they have no support. The director chairs or OK but heavy and awkward, zero gravity are comfy but big and heavy. After buying and trying many, many chairs, we found our favourite at Mountain Equipment Coop.

MEC DELUXE CAMP CHAIR 2.0, these are awesome, They have an aluminum frame and only weigh 13 lbs, even have a handle and buckle to hold them closed when you carry them to the campfire. We have the 1.0 version which has a fixed back and is very comfortable, the 2.0 version has the reclining back.

Ian,

I really like the way these chairs look. Similar seat and back to the directors chair which I can get out of and very solid looking but lighter construction. Price is inline for a good camp chair as well.
Thanks for posting these, Bonus-a built in bottle opener!

Looks to be a fine chair, but their website says it's no longer sold.

I'm looking for a good camp chair also. Not sure which one I'll buy but I prefer a chair with four feet and not one with two horizontal bars as the feet. The bar style can become unstable on uneven ground. Not an issue if you stay on RV pads but can be a pain when boon docking.

Chairs with four feet when boondocking can sink into soft earth though. We've on occasion taken the fold up four feet chairs that go in a bag along with the Tommy Bahama beach chairs and the zero gravity loungers and use the beach chairs most often.

Could be- the seller of my Lafuma said they still had a few, however wouldn't have more until April. Makes sense not to stock items that will sit for three months. Prodded me to get two that are arriving tomorrow.

I can think of a few places to actually be able to try out some chairs:
Cabelas
Camping world
Dicks sporting goods
Walmart?
Rei

Can anyone suggest others I’m not thinking of? I’d rather not order something this bulky and subjective off of amazon, I want to sit before I buy. Thanks !

I'm the same way, and have never found a real good selection to try out anywhere.

If you're trying chairs, get yourself a cup of coffee and sit down. Don't get up until you finished the coffee or discovered how uncomfortable the chair is.
I did a quick sit in a chair at Canadian Tire. Bought it. At camp I sat in it for 20 minutes and then carted it over to the dumpster.

We tried our friends chairs from Costco and liked them, the wine may have helped.
We purchased ours in Arizona Mesa Costco, price was right and the quality has been great. We have used them from Arizona to Alaska.

Definitely good advice. I ordered one of the Strongback Elite's online. When I first sat in it, I loved it. After 30 minutes, not so much. Back was hurting and legs tingling. So I sent it back and got a refund.

I was in a local store in Iowa City that sells all kinds of camping gear and other sporting goods. They had about 20 different camp chairs on the floor all set up to try out. Point is that if you live where there is a non chain sporting goods store you might find a good one you like and often competitively priced. They had a folding model branded Browning that was pretty comfortable at $50 rated for 300 lbs. that I tried. Seemed pretty good.
