Who has the highest cabin fever, the people who created these photo opportunities or the guy who posted them? The answer: All of us wasting time looking at them and watching daytime TV. I'm tired from mining gold, making moonshine, running from game wardens and analyzing toe injuries on overpaid professional athletes. Gotta thaw before long here.

I actually like winter and I think without that threat of knowing it was coming I'd get a lot less done around here. Besides winter gives me much more time to hang out here and read Dave's latest Midwiticisms.

Your not alone , Winter is one of our favorite seasons .
We went down South in the Winter for four years until we realized
it wasn't for us . We missed the snow , winter activities / sports and watching the fire burn in our wood stove.
Having to drive 1800 miles and then be confined to our air conditioned trailer seemed like a poor bargain to us.
Spent 2 hours this morning shoveling snow and enjoyed every minute of it . Going sledding with my grandkids this weekend

We've not had all that much snow this winter so far. I have three steel runner sleds in the garage. When I brought the last one home Rita said "Dave, you're 58 years old, don't you think your sledding days are about over?" Kinda hurt my feelings to realize she was probably right. I remember my dad taking us out in the country and tying a hundred foot hemp rope to the bumper of the 41 Plymouth. The ruts and ridges made for quite a ride but those slick old wooden country bridges with no railings would up the pucker factor every time.

Arghh! I'm a lot older than that and I went sledding over Christmas with my family right outside my cabin in Glacier (and, yes, on an old steel-runner sled). My feelings are crushed! And I just rafted down the North Fork of the Nooksack River with my grandson [with a commercial rafting outfit] looking at eagles and ice formations. Just keep on truckin'...

I just got back from 6 days at the beach! Started with a phone call to my buddy about 18 years ago when the temp was expected to be in the 70's. We camped in tents, and then rented cabins, and now I'm in my Escape and he's in an Aliner. Great way to ring in the New Year. Made it home just before the snow started and dropped 8".

Sledding
Perhaps I was not entirely clear. Happens every time I open my mouth. So for the sake of full disclosure and all that. I haven't bought a sled for 11 years. I am 69 and have not been sledding lately. However, next time it snows I will get a sled out and attempt to have someone make a video of my sledding prowess. I say attempt because I'll be going so fast the videographer and the recording device may not be able to get anything but a blur. I have a full quarter mile hill out at the farm that is a class C road so the highway patrol will not be there to catch me speeding. For now, I have to get a ladder out and get the heaviest duty unit down out of the rafters and polish the runners. Stand by

Did it help? I want to go fast now. I was thinking tri-flow or silicone. I have some trap wax that speeds those MB 550's up pretty good. Maybe I'll use that.

Was at White Sands Nat Monument yesterday, folks sledding down the dunes, pretty slow substitute for snow. We skipped it, don't need sand in unmentionable places.

I think you've experienced it first hand. I had to go to hobby lobby today to find some fresh people to talk to! The guys at the hardware store hide when I come in. I bought one of those 11 lb propane tanks last week with gift cards I got when I re retired in 2013. Tired of buying the little ones for the stove and Weber Q.

We did not have sleds when we were kids . We used a coal shovel for a sled and steered with the shovel handle , or the metal lid off a 55 gal barrel , or as a last resort , we used cardboard rubbed with paraffin but the cardboard fell apart if the snow was wet.
