This Melita thermal carafe and filter can be used with electric or propane heated kettle that can also be used to make tea or hot chocolate.

The thermal carafe is easy to store, doesn't require electricity and you can take it outside.

that is in fact the same carafe that our old Bonavita used.

when our power was shutdown for a redflag day, I used the carafe from the Motif, with its filter basket, and my jetboil to hand pour. so yes, its multipurpose. I still like the convenience of an electric drip at home.

Is that what you use at home or camping?

We use the Melita when camping. At home we have a Krups programmable coffee maker, because we have electricity for it. Don't use the program feature. It's basically a pour over, using the same #4 filters as the Melita, but it heats the water and does the pour over. Of all the automatic coffee makers we've had, the Krups delivers the correct water temperature best.

Honestly, all this talk about coffee and all the devices that you all use is enough to make me go and make another cup of my favorite Nescafe instant coffee.

Then there's Irish Coffee - Tullemore Dew is superb for that.

about a year ago i switched from the melita plastic cone to a ceramic? glass? one that also holds the #4 (larger) filter. (it's heavier) I have one in the house and another in the 17. it drips into a 20 oz carafe that keeps the coffee hot for a few hours. https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/sto...SABEgJkuvD_BwE

somehow a few years ago my grinder broke and i didn't replace it...just had the peets delivery changed from beans to ground. y'all have inspired me...i'll order the capresso infinity next week in hopes that it'll be on black friday sale somewhere.

I decided to order the widely recommended here capresso infinity, and was ready to spring for the more beefy metal body rather than plastic. It's on sale for 99.99 at costco online (google shopping) and with the code decsave19 you get 20% off. My total w tax and including $5 shipping was 89.07. That's quite a bit lower than any other price I could find. Code is good through 12/8. (it's not available in costco stores)

the chrome one was chromed plastic when I was buying mine, so its purely cosmetic. now, if they have an actual metal one, thats new.

it's a bit confusing because I saw both listed in some places as "stainless steel"

the 560.04 is plastic and says " stainless finish" made of ABS plastic. it weighs 3 lbs and runs about $100.

the 565.05 says "die cast zinc housing" and weighs 6 lbs. Most places it was @$150, which made the sale such a good deal.

this info was taken from the capresso.com site.

ok, yeah, new models. they also have 'plus' models (570, 575) that are an inch taller and look like the bean hopper is larger by that much.

fwiw, our black plastic original model is still going strong after years and years. not sure how long we've had it, its outlived a couple coffee makers.

Bob we do at home . It has many settings and works for us . We usually buy different ground coffee and instead of the pods use solo cups that you can use any coffee . That one looks interesting but we are pretty happy with ours . Even makes iced coffee in the summer . Pat

I read someplace that those Keurig pods are clogging drains and sewer systems, something like 30,000,000 per year are being disposed of......
