A collar for the Thermos!

OMG. I am so excited! After all these years of being tethered to the #4 Melitta brewing cone as it drips into our SS quart Thermos, Skip found "Charlotte": a drinking-water grade 3 > 2 reducing collar that will sit on top of the Thermos, so the the Melitta brewing cone can perch without the aid of hand holding.

Amazon sells a #6 Melitta cone that's designed to work with a Thermos, but 1) we already have the #4 (and it uses the same filters as the the coffeemaker in our house), and 2) I'm afraid the #6 cone won't fit where I want to store it in the Escape. So, after some discussion and gnashing of teeth, Skip went looking through the plumbing parts...and voila!

Good work. A lot cheaper than the Melita stainless thermos and filter holder I found at the Melita Canada site. I found it nowhere else, but it's the best we've used ( other than the plastic Melita set we had ). Filter holder attaches to the thermos.
Can't find it now, or I'd post a link.

Searched my mail and found this:
10 stainless steel thermal manual coffeemaker, lid and carafe and filter cone, uses #4 paper filter, $49.99

True to the Melitta tradition, prepares 10 cups of coffee made the “Gourmet” way.
Stainless Steel Carafe holds 10 cups of hot coffee and keeps it warm for hours.
Ideal for use at home, office or college.
Heavy duty plastic filter cone and lid are BPA Free and top rack dishwasher safe.
Includes brewing cone, plastic top, and a start up supply of Melitta #4 cone filters.
#64104 Product Dimensions: 8”W – 6”D – 9.75”H
Can be purchased from our Melitta Canada office by calling 1-800-565-4882.

Aero Press is the best

This is what I use. Gives espresso like coffee or americano with a very simple setup.

Here is a video

Yes. And, we have had other carafes, but over the years decided the Thermos really does better, and we already have it (and otherwise would not use it). Finding the plumbing collar that fits perfectly for < $4 (US) is our perfect solution - at least for now.

I also used to use the #6 Melitta into my SS quart thermos. After some thought about what was most important, I just drilled a hole into the top screw on cup so the filter would sit there. Now, I use the SS thermos to keep boxes from sliding into the aisle from under the bed in the 19 while traveling. Glad you found a solution as coffee is important! Latest is using a Nuvo Eco Ceramic Handy Coffee Bean Roaster to roast my beans.

Fresh Coffee on the road - no electric needed!
OK, I've finally got my coffee kit completed:
Roasting: Nuco Eco Handy Coffee Bean Roaster, Coleman Exponent Dual Fuel Stove & OXO Soft Works Strainer to cool beans after roasting.
Grinding: Porlex JP-30 SS Coffee Grinder
Brewing: Aerobie AeroPress Coffee Maker + S Filter for Aeropress & just add hot water heated on the stove.
Just add green coffee beans and you'll never have to drink "old" coffee again!
