Commissary privileges for veterans
I noticed in the news today they are going to offer another benefit by offering the ability to shop online at commissary's. I have no idea if that will be a good thing or not.
If you are interested here is the link to have your service verification checked. Anyone with an honorable discharge is eligible.

And here is the online exchange website

I heard about that too, and thanks for the links.
It's another option for me, since I left the service after 10 years instead of staying in and retiring. I've found the Commissary prices pretty good, but the Exchange not so much.
I would imagine they will have to revise their base access and entry process to allow it, since Vets like me don't have a military ID or a CAC.

I think it is the exchanges and will be online access only. I never went to one of these as far as I know but I did hit the commissaries for beer and cigs and such. You know the important stuff to single young guys

Robert,
I've taken to carrying a copy of my DD214 (actually, immediately after discharge, I had the DD214 original recorded at the County Recorder's office, and I carry a stamped certified copy from the Recorder). This has come in handy a few times at campgrounds and with at least one mfr.

My VA ID wouldn't get me past the guards at Kirtland AFB here. They had guns, too.
Just applied: they sent me this message.
"Thank you for applying to participate in the Veterans online shopping benefit. Based on the information you provided, your record cannot be located. It is possible that your records have not yet been digitized - "

Lowes offers a year round 10% discount to vets, Home Depot may but their store is not nearby so I do not shop there.
I've made a few copies of my DD214 for in case, I heard there is possibly going to be a card we can carry that signifies our status. That was in the news late last year but I have not heard anything more about it.

Vetverify is unable to verify what they haven't received yet (which is my case). Apparently, there is a lot of digitization of older records that hasn't been done yet.
So they say, send a copy of your DD214 or other record to them. However, I find no place to send it.
If any one finds how and where, I'd love to have that info.

I got out in 1976 and the verification was instant so mine must have been digitized. I know there was a fire in 1973 that destroyed a lot of older records.

Worked for Deb and I just now, of course it's meaningless till November.
In MA we can get our license marked as Vets, haven't done it yet but I will one day.

Just need to figure out what the benefit really is, if anything.

We can get a V on ours too. As you say not sure what good it would be though. There was supposed to be some sort of card that took the place of the DD214 that was being worked on. Maybe I'll email my Congressman and ask him about it.

I thought that's what the vet license was for, but that would make sense so it's probably not the case.

I've used a copy of my DD214 for all sorts of things, like reinstating a VA loan eligibility, getting vet discounts at certain businesses, etc. I would much prefer a veterans card if that's in the works. Easier to carry around.
