From Military.com

"Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for our veterans.

This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country's service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to "Veterans Day" in order to account for all veterans in all wars.

We celebrate and honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good
."

Kim and I recognize the sacrifices all veterans have made on our behalf.
May God bless them.

I will echo your sentiments on this day to reflect and remember those who served. Semper Paratus (Always Ready)

I note too, Keith and Lauren, that each of the soldiers are standing!

Veterans and Remembrance Day

This morning we attended a rather unique service honouring our veterans and those killed in action in many wars and peacekeeping missions. In our border town service we sang both the Star Spangled Banner and O Canada and the American Legion among many other groups laid a wreath at our indoor cenotaph.

Armistance Day

Having friends, relatives, and especially my Dad buried in Veterans sections of the cemetery I am often reminded of the importance of their lives and those of others who have served our country. From a historical aspect, I am always cognizant of the weather on Veterans Day as I heard many times the story of the Armistance Day Blizzard in November of 1940. This was an historic blizzard that took many lives and was clear in the minds of my Mom and Dad till they passed. If you care about weather it’s an interesting story that you can read about. Armistice Day Blizzard 1940. Thanks for your service allied service people and their at home support everywhere.

Big salute to all my fellow vets, especially those who served in combat.

This is an old USCG poster. I like it because it states the Coast Guard's unofficial motto - "you have to go out, you don't have to come back" - the origins are from the search and rescue mission where, no matter the odds, the Coast Guard would respond to those in need. Very somber. The official motto is Semper Paratus (Always Ready).

Quite honorable. We also live in a small border community and enjoy the camaraderie that comes from cross-border interaction.
