Hi: All... I'm crying,CRYING!!!
Just turned over the garden... but that's not what's got me crying. Dug some horseradish and now I'm peeling it ready to grind. Should have got me a breathing apparatus. It'll taste good with roast beef though. Alf

We used to dig a couple of bushels every fall. My Dad got them from a couple of spinsters in Swisher Iowa. Later on he bought their 1941 Plymouth. We'd grind it with a meat grinder clamped to an extended stair tred on the back porch steps. My Dad would cry like a baby. We'd jar it up in glass jars we saved all year from mustard, olives,
baby food, peanut butter etc. We would make a trip down to the University hospital where my dad knew a woman who "lived" in an iron lung and give her a couple jars which lasted her till the next year. I still have the Keen Kutter grinder.
Everyone needs the memories I am blessed with.

When my brother and I get together about once a week, I come up with a foggy memory and he fleshes it out for me as his memory is excellent too. If you are in Eastern Iowa anytime, let me know and we'll have some fun. The stories exist because we grew up in that transitional 50s era when there were still hobos. zip guns, trees to climb and worlds to conquer. When I was 14 I promised myself that when I got out of high school I'd go to Alaska and trap the high dollar fur. I thought I could do it because I had trapped 500 pocket gophers for the 10 cent per gopher bounty and bought a $50 Schwinn bicycle. Never quite made it.

Oh, that's why. I thought you were crying because you'd just found the propane tanks were empty and you had to buy another Escape.
Love horse radish, even when the tears are streaming down my cheeks and my hearts pounding.
