Hobbies

I need a new hobby, getting bored when I'm sitting around the camp, especially when we're inside. Can't carve inside, can't practice the uke, cause I'm lousy at it and I drive Deb bonkers, to say nothing of the neighbors. I read a lot, but I need something else too.

So what do you all do to pass the down time?

Corn hole toss works for me. Also, adds lots of steps, thus burning up calories to allow for a beer or....... Plus, lots of laughs.

I do cross stitch...very relaxing and you get artwork to hang on your trailer walls.

Outdoor games like bocce or snake toss (some call it ladder golfing) are what we play. So many things to find to do outside too, which is where we spend the majority of no-sleeping time.

When forced inside we will read, play all kinds of board or card games, I play online word games, guitar, web browsing, movies or TV (though rarely), work on digital photos, some phone calls, Lisa does sewing my type craft stuff, etc. I have missed lots and will likely create more as time goes on.

Some of my more enjoyable past times include cycling, running, hiking, paddling, skiing, eating, drinking, reading, listening to music, watching movies, internet browsing, sleeping.

When there’s nobody around I like to to a little singing and practicing my whistling. I think about the Iowa State Band playing the St Louis Blues March (Glenn Miller arrangement) and visualize the Baton girl throwing her baton about 40 feet in the air and catching it on the way down. I also like to listen to R and B music out of the 50s with Tenor Saxophone solos. And drink beer and pet my dog.

Just thought of another hobby, astronomy. Seems like a lot places we stay have good views of dark skies. Get yourself a beginner telescope and read up about the stars...

Ditto for ham radio. It's more interesting than I thought it would be, once I got over the childhood admonition about talking to strangers. And I've been able to make new friends via the hobby, something we all need to do as we get older.

Astronomy-- you'd be surprised at what you can see with a good pair of binoculars and a cellphone app to guide you.

Photography-- similarly, cellphone cameras have gotten pretty good and you can post your results on the Web. And nowadays with digital cameras there is almost zero marginal cost to taking as many photos as you like.

With any of these hobbies it doesn't cost too much to dip your toe in, but serious hobbyists can spend a lot of money in any one of them. Or all of them.

Not that I would be interested, but if I was to try han radio, I would have to camp alone.

Fishing now, for some reason Lisa pushes me to go out and do this and leave her all by herself.

When I fish I drink, when I drink I do not catch any fish, end of story.

Nice list. You could add planning for MORE cycling, running, hiking paddling, skiing (eating too I suppose)

I do fish once a week or so, when I'm in MA or CT. Unfortunately you need a license in every state you fish in. Was in VT last week and NY this week so I'd need 4 just for local trips. Wish they'd come out with a country wide or even a North American license.
