Well, I checked the numbers, I got 2 on one and one on another line? Not enough to get the relatives excited. We will see if there are any big winners elsewhere.....

I've never had the urge to purchase a ticket. When you look at the numbers, there is so little chance of winning, that it just doesn't tempt me. Kind of like the ones who don't fly - as the trip to and from the airport is much more dangerous than the actual flight. When asked why I don't play, I just explain that there is too much pressure - if I were to win, it's just too much work to hold onto the winnings - I'd rather camp!

That's us though. The occasional player who buys the occasional ticket for fun, and has the money to do so, is one thing. The other kind disturbs me. You know the one. They pull up to the place in a junk vehicle (or they can't afford a vehicle so they get off the bus), disheveled, obvious that they can't afford to spend money on frivolous things. And yet you watch them plunk down $100 or $200 on a pipe dream that could have been rent, or food in their kids mouth. All sponsored by the government. Ugh. The comedian Ron White's tag line comes to mind: you can't fix stupid.

Well, you might start a go-fund-me for the Cabana boy. Just sayin'.

Pleasure is pleasure and we all find it in different ways. I'm glad I don't gamble... but this was fun! And it was cheaper to 'play' than purchasing a drive through coffee which wouldn't have lasted nearly as long.

For a few hours I dreamed.... what if? I thought of my Dad, who passed at 98 y/o. He occasionally played the lottery and often said if he won he'd try to make certain there were no hungry children in his town. What a goal! My Dad wanted for nothing but giving hope and dreams for others was his heart's desire. You know what? IF I had won the big one, I would have honored his memory in seeing his dream was fulfilled. Like paying off all the kids lunch accounts at school, etc. True story.

But I'm back to the drawing board. It took 2 months for MegaMillions to hit $521 Million. I'm prepared to spend $2 two months from now. Anyone else in then?

In the 1970's, there was a greyhound track North of Denver on I-25. A group of us used to go there - mostly to watch the people. The track had a special window for those cashing a welfare check to purchase race tickets. Those people were usually the most visibly upset when they lost, then they'd head right back to a window to buy their next losing ticket. Pretty sad addiction....

Going to the Dogs

I only went to a dog track once. I actually won about $70 betting on small females that nigh. That was my only criteria. Greyhound racing was new to Iowa then. In a couple years everywhere you looked there were greyhound adoption groups. It was real sad to me. Never went back. Track went broke, sets along US 20/ 27 in Waterloo Iowa, grown up in weeds.
I used to like to shoot competitive trap for prizes. Hams, turkeys, money. You were only betting on your ability. I found that to be reasonable and fair even though there were guys shooting hot loads, release triggers and all that, they could still be beat. I would shoot my regular hunting shotgun, buy my shells from the club owner, when the shooting was done and the gun was in the trunk we’d have a couple beers and tell a few lies and go home. I could win a $15 ham and only spend about $30. It was a good deal. 😜

My consolation prize today, and yes Donna I'll be in again. But for $2, I'll risk it for the $40million weekly amount, the cost of a draft beer, the $535 million was just too big....

Darn Jim we're passing near you in I81 on April 9th, was hoping to stop in and collect my $1000. Any consolation prize left?

Close but no cigar

Well Jim, I wasn’t figuring on a windfall today so I wasn’t that disappointed. Being a good citizen, I took a 5 gallon bucket of glass bottles and some cardboard to the private Recycler
today. When I went to throw the glass in the rolloff somebody had left quite a few deposit beer bottles setting neatly by the rolloff. I loaded them up, took them to the bottle
deposit machine at the grocery store and got $3.65. So no lottery prize but still got enough for a gallon and a half of gasoline. Felt so good I filled all the bird feeders when I got home so they can eat in the morning. Good Karma

Heading north, no Niagara this year since we'll be spending time in ON in April.
