Shaping up nice, Robert.

me
I think some of us like to escape the doldrums of our life when going camping.
you
For me it has always been the opposite, to get away from all the busyness of life, to slow things down for a while.

I think we are say the same thing....eh?

I think they're a little different. If you define 'doldrums' as inactivity or depression (as I do), then camping can break you out of that I suppose. But I think what Jim's saying is it gets him out of too much activity, not too little - the rat race if you will - and lets him slow down. That's been my experience too.

Understandably, my response came from a retiree, his and yours from a working person, but we both need a break.....

The new place does make me wonder though. If it's nice and peaceful and quiet there, and surrounded by nature, will it make me camp less? I suspect not. Part of why we camp is to see new things and meet new people. Can't do that from home, no matter how pleasant it may be.

In the summer, I'd rather be in my back yard than in almost any campground. Much more private.

Go boondocking my friend, go boondocking. I recall a BLM campsite in southern Utah where the nearest living soul to us was probably 20 miles away.

'tis true, it is a break, a change, from everyday life. I never really expect mine to slow down very much though, even when now working for others.

Meeting people is a big part of camping too. Most often they are great folks looking for a similar experience.

While having lived in TX and still have lots of family there, not familiar at all with this part of TX. The pics look very nice and an area we need to investigate when we hit the road in a few years.
Great spot for a base to go and come from when you give up the working thing.

Definitely check out the Hill Country, Greg. I've been all over the state, and it's still my favorite part.

Yep, certainly private. Because I don't need to answer the door, answer the phone.. do absolutely nothing.. including talk to people.

BUT, I find I get antsy even when trying to relax. Sitting in a lawn chair on the deck... oh look... a weed! And over there a shrub that can use some pruning. And before long, I'm working.

I go camping to let someone else take care of the 'living room.' IF all I wanted was privacy, I'd stay home... and work

Yes, this post has been a real education.

First, what I thought was going to be a monolithic slab turned into a totally awesome foundation.

I've taken 10 across West Texas to San Antonio but didn't know anything about the Hill Country. Sure looks nicer than West Texas.

Only thing that's worrying me though is I don't see those visitor trailer pads yet.

Great looking place Robert. We've spent a little time in parts of the hill country, if I were to move to TX, that'd be the area.

Drove from Austin to SA this Jan on I-35, first and last time I go there.

I-35 is really bad. The busiest interstate in the country someone told me. I think it's because of all the trucks. Duluth MN to Laredo TX...NAFTA corridor.

Try I95 from Philadelphia to Richmond, virtual parking lot 24 hours a day
Interstate 95
Interstate 95 passes through the most densely populated part of the U.S.
I-95 crossing the George Washington Bridge in New York City; Wally Gobetz
A few stretches of interstate carry more traffic than the busiest parts of I-95, but no road in America is as consistently busy from one end to the other. I-95 runs from the Canadian border south to Miami, covering 1,917 miles and crossing through 15 states — the most of any interstate highway. According to the Federal Highway Administration, 1,040 of those miles are in urban areas, and more than 60 percent of those segments are classified as “under heavy congestion.” I-95 travels through the most densely populated region of the country in its northeast passage. More than 325,000 vehicles per day travel through the area encompassing the New York City/New Jersey/Connecticut area, making that stretch the seventh busiest in the country. It gets worse. I-95 passes through the Washington, D.C., area, another traffic chokepoint on the way to its southern terminus just south of Miami, where I-95 there rates as the sixth most-traveled section of interstate in the U.S. Florida’s 382-mile portion of the interstate is not just busy, it’s deadly — a Daily Beast study of federal data from 2004-2008 found I-95 in Florida to be the deadliest stretch of interstate highway in the U.S.

I tried it last week. DC to Quantico. Depends on the time of day, but yes, pretty bad.

Having driven I-95 many times, it is worse then 35 at rush hour. Was on 35 around starting around 10am, it seemed like a never ending rush hour. Then it started to rain.

Lost Maples SP was very nice.

House is coming along. They did the 5th punch of the framing and the inspector cleared it. Electrical and mechanicals done, low voltage done, roof done, stucco skip coat done, most of the batt insulation done, the rest will be blown once the ceilings and trays are up. Next is stonework and drywall.Click image for larger version
