They had to stop. I recently read something about this, I wish I remember where. A court made Google stop scanning books due to an antitrust problem, I think, not copyright. If Google scanned all the books then only Google would have all the scans, creating a monopoly. I don't remember the gist of it to be honest, but I do remember that for the time being at least they had to stop. It's a shame something couldn't be worked out.

For a daily comic strip related to the OP 's topic, see "Baby Blues" for July 4, 2017.
Baby Blues | By Rick Kirkman and Jerry Scott
Cute but sad.
Since it's posted on their open access web site, and I'm not trying to profit from it, I hope it's okay to post it here....

Remember when...
A million dollar movie was a big deal?
A hundred dollar suit was the ultimate in fine menswear!
A hundred thousand dollar mansion was not an oxymoron?
Those were the days!

Those were also the days when we practiced getting under our desks at school in case there was a nuclear attack! Really?
The good old days were not always so good. They didn't have Escape trailers back then.

I don't know, but those drills were a great time for "tomfoolery" while the teacher couldn't see you!
