Maple syrup pies

I heard how good these were from a Canadian snowbird and figured yeah right, just like poutain is supposed to be great.
But decided what the heck I have a gallon of Vermont maple syrup and since neither of us use it decided to make a pie to see.
OK, they did not pull my leg when they said these were good. It taste like butter scotch pie made with maple syrup.
I used a recipe I found online from someone in Quebec as it seemed good. Here is the recipe,

1 1/2 cups maple syrup
6 TBSP butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 TBSP flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
Boil syrup 5 minutes
Add butter then cream then flour and salt.
Beat eggs into it and pour into a pie crust.
Bake at 350F for 1 hour.
I whipped some cream and sweetened it with maple syrup to top it with.

Usually our key lime pies and the peanut butter pies are the first to vanish but after this was tasted it was gone and I was asked to bring them from now on. I tasted a sliver to see and I have to agree it was good.

Here's another pie with maple syrup. We tried it...fantastic and surprisingly not too sweet like some pecan pies can be. We used demerra or turbinado sugar instead of the coconut sugar (not something we normally have in the pantry)

I take it this has nothing to do the The Griswolds. Chrismas vacation, National Lampoons family vacation ect. Or I do not remember them making a pie in one of the films.

Thanks, I copied the recipe down and will give it a try one day.
We do not eat sweets so I have to wait for when my Mom calls and wants me to make stuff for her . This year her church fed a bunch of homeless so I brought up 11 pies. 5 each key lime and peanut butter and one maple syrup pie just to see how it was received.

You will love it

If you like sweets and maple syrup, you are going to love this. Most Quebecers who do have a recipe for maple pie closely guard their recipes! Bet ya can’t have just one piece!

You folks are so cruel! I’m currently out of the country and the chances of finding maple syrup and a pie crust here are practically nil. Then, someone links to the Griswold pie with pecans and chocolate. Just kill me now!

Debbie and I have an agreement: I do the crust, and she will do the filling..... She has an old family (scratch) pumpkin recipe to die for. Yesterday I did two crusts and she did one pumpkin and one pecan....OMG! Our 16 year-old grandson said, “Aampa, that pecan pie is amazing!”
An endorsement from a teenager........It doesn’t get any better than that........

It sounds like a variation on Sugar Pie, or what some folks in Quebec call Sugar Cream Pie - both of which are delicious, but so sweet for me that a little goes a long way.

Or what we call a butterscotch pie. Which was what I describe it as. A Butterscotch pie made with maple syrup. It adds to the flavor a lot so I'll make some when Mom needs my help again.

I made the Griswold pie and was told it's a bit too sweet and the chocolate seems to not fit. So I used the original maple pie and added the cup and a half of pecans and that is a lot better. I'm wondering if walnuts would work as well. Guess next pie I'll check and see.

9 inch pie crust.
1 1/2 cups pecans
Spread pecans on bottom of the pie.

1 1/2 cups maple syrup
6 TBSP butter
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 TBSP flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
Boil syrup 5 minutes
Add butter then cream then flour and salt.
Beat eggs into it and pour into the pie crust.
Bake at 350F for 1 hour.

I whipped some cream and sweetened it with maple syrup to top it with.
I am not eating them, I'm feeding the neighbors and getting their response so I'll know which to make next time Mom wants pies.
Wife is on a diet and I do not eat high carb items.

I was pretty happy that I chose the career that I did. However, if a person could land a job as a pie taster, ice cream taster, or any of those good things to eat taster, it would not seem to be a bad gig. Friend of my sons’s who we used to fish with, drives new prototype Audi’s all over the country and writes reports on their performance. They use his descriptions in their advertising. He’s an Ohio State grad. Another pretty good gig.

I think I would not mind Li'l Abner's job.
I heard he just kind of fell into it.
His other job no, I do not want to cut crescents for the little wonder privy co. Mr Bennett is a better woodworker.

A maple syrup pie and a key lime pie were brought to the potlucks at Scamp camp. Both vanished very quickly so I guess people like them.
I do not know if Alf got to try the Key Lime, I think he was admiring his new trailer accessory.

OK I'll bite, what did Alf get?

Less than four weeks and we'll see you at GE&H, can hardly wait to get away from our long cold winter!

We go to a local Franco-Manitobain fall supper and have tortiere and sugar pie, yum.
