No snow this year....

According to the long range forecast for the Philadelphia/Baltimore/Harrisburg tricity area, no accumulating snow over next 90 days. some ice, but no plowable accumulations expected? First time in my 70+ year life this has happened.

Hi: cpaharley2008... I love it when my snowshovel rusts to the basement floor. Glad my wife got herself a plastic one. 8*C(Canadian) this am.

Whether you believe in Climate Change or not, the weather is just weird. Here in PDX we should be at mid-30s to low 40s this time of year. We're going to hit the 50s on New Years Day! AND, then mid-50s on Friday. Our mountain show pack is way down too.

It’s the end of December and in Iowa all the creeks are open, there’s no snow in the ground and no frost. From a safety, comfort and home heating basis it’s nice. We had 40 inches of precipitation here this past year which is well in excess of the average and soil moisture is good. The downside is that we rely on frozen ground for an extended period of time to kill out invasive pests, break down compostable materials, etc. Our recreation department used to maintain 17 ground ice skating rinks. Now none. Not cold enough and all the kids are inside playing video games and communicating on their phones anyway. The world and its inhabitants continue to change and it’s not all for the better in my opinion.

No snow predicted for the winter?

Be wary of that one. Predictions are hard to make, especially about the future, as that wise sage, Yogi Bera once chimed.

I live in Juneau, Alaska and there is no snow here either …. At least at sea level. We have had snow showers but as of yet nothing sticking or remaining. Next week the forecast is for colder weather so that could change. So far it has been mostly in the forty's by day and mid thirties by night .... way warmer than usual.

I believe in climate change ….. its obvious up here … our glaciers are all melting significantly. I'm a gardener and have been keeping an eye on weather changes for many years. Seems that winter has been arriving later and later, spring correspondingly later too …. however, the photo period stays the same … giving us shorter and shorter growing seasons.

I'm considering moving my trailer from Washington State to Alaska. Wondering how the cold and snow pack is in BC and the Yukon. Likely transit in March. So how is the winter shaping up on the West Coast of Canada? Would like to avoid an Ernest Shackleton type of trip …. so I'm watching.

Tom

It’s been snowing here since 7:00 AM this morning and supposed to continue until well into tomorrow. I started shoveling at 11:00 AM and will spend most of tomorrow doing the same
The snow is wet and heavy causing the ice on our lake to sink under the weight .
Spring is still 3 months off and hopefully by then the snow will melt enough so that I can get to my pole barn and get my trailer ready for our trip to Iowa in May

Yup, amen to that. Here in Ventura County: northern half of the county had 12-18" of snow on Xmas Day. (of course, that's the part of the county between 3500' and 8847' above sea level; but you can see it while surfing.)

An inch or so of rain followed by ice, sleet, and a little snow, but it does show off the overnight visitor we had.

No snow in Quartzsite, but the coldest winter I've spent here in the last 4 years.
