Pet exercise pen

Am looking for advice on the best outside pen for the 2 canines. They are 15# each. I am tired of the tangled tie-outs. Ideally would like something that is light and can be stowed in the back of the 4runner along with all the other gear. I do have the metal heavy kind at home but hate to carry them as they are heavy. TIA

We used my pontoon boat anchor with rope attached to dog. You can place it anywhere and lengthen or shorten the lead as required. It's called a grapnel style anchor.

We switched to this for our 3 terriers - disassembles/reassembles in maybe 2 minutes, has a door, lightweight compared to metal, and never rusts!

On a similar subject magnified 20 times, this book has some insights to portable pet areas. Plus it’s hilarious....

Thanks Charlie, I remember that pen & your terriers from one of the NOGs.

I travel with 4 Brittanys on our usual camping trips and to field trials and other dog venues. While you can buy fancy stakeouts from companies such as www.lcsupply.com, they are heavy and hard to pound into the ground. I ended up making my own. I bought 3' lengths of light chain, snaps, and rings from my local farm store and 4 medium duty metal tent stakes. I pound the tent stake through the ring all the way into the ground so the chain is secured. It takes less than a minute to set up 4 of them, and the chains never get tangled. I don't want to lug and set up heavy X-pens either. I store all four set-ups in a small bucket. This should work great for your smaller dogs.

We did that; worked well until the puppy grew up a bit. Then I had to chase the anchor down the road....

We got one of those round pens that folds relatively flat from Pet Smart to use for the large chihuahua when we go camping because he would get tangled up with our big dog when they were tied up. Never worked because he really doesn’t want to be anywhere but in a lap. What a waste of money! Dang dog has us trained!

I made dog barriers out one inch PVC. Last few years our dogs have been well past the gate challenge stage.
