Solar Eclipse warning.

Our daughter lives in Lander Wyoming and they are expecting over 500,000 visitors in Wyoming during the solar eclipse next week. Local officials are worried there may be food and fuels shortages. We are going up, but have been told to bring plenty of food and extra fuel. It will be amazing.

I am willing to bet these fears are over stated. Remember Y2k?

Jim,

I've thought the same thing. "Local Officials" often overreact a little. I thought I'd just put it out there. It's probably a good idea to restock your food before you get to ground zero.

A few days after January 1, 2000 a coworker used our internal online calculator to see how much he had in his retirement account. The response was that he had worked there for 107 years and had seven million dollars in his account. I told him he should retire immediately.

JKing. Are you camping on Casper/Muddy mountain? I plan to arrive there on Tuesday. I called BLM in Casper a few days ago and they have an overflow area there and thought there would not be a problem getting a spot on Tuesday

If you bring pets, keep an eye on them. There are people coming for the eclipse who want to sacrifice animals during the event. They aren't bringing the sacrificial animals with them, either.

Talking

RE: bring pets. Heard at Chaco Canyon they're going to do extra-terrestrial lectures, and (wow) a live feed. That's where we're going.

Here in Colter BAy in the Tetons the staff people are pretty nervous. The food and water is needed because they think there will be gridlock after the eclipse. We're hoping the crowds don't show up.

Yes, Rim or Lodgepole Campground on Modyy Mountain. If those are full on Wednesday, I'll be surprised. The overflow areas are just open hilltops, no trees.

I head on the news tonight that some 30% of those surveyed (throughout US) planned to attend the eclipse. That would be a lot of people. Also, they had sold some 300 million eclipse glasses.

We figure it'll be two adventures. 1) The eclipse and 2) the migration and exodus surrounding it.

Thanks.

Definite strategic planning.

Our trusted local news channel (little-to-no "fake news," that we know of) said we will be 91'ers in our area (91% eclipse coverage; peak at 1:34 pm). Maybe the remaining 9% sunshine will be enough to keep at bay those who might otherwise drift toward the "wacko" end of the umbraphile spectrum.

Yup, we're migrating from North Van. to South of Portland so we can see the total rather partial eclipse.

Don't know what the traffic situation will be. We might regret it or it might be a great adventure.

It will be like traffic around one huge NASCAR race extending the entire breadth of the country! Take a ton of extra toilet paper to sell at a price gouging amount, and you might just be able to pay for your whole trip.
