They definitely mastered quality control. We gave a 1998 Toyota Corolla to a niece in Calgary 3 years ago. She's staying with us over the holiday and I drove it the other day, as much as I hate driving a car with pink Hello Kitty seatcovers . I was amazed, still drives like new.

Heck, that's just getting broken in! Best (as in longest-lasting) car I ever owned was the 1972 Toyota Corona I bought not long after we got married, eventually sold it at 404,000 miles (not km!) to a work colleague who drove it for another 4 or 5 years.

A few months ago I met a gentleman who was fuelling his car at the gas pump next to mine, his 1952 MG-TC he'd bought new in 1952 -- his first and only car, and has driven it ever since!
