Thanks...reference post #16....I got a hold of the Oregon State Patrol and let them know about the Scamp outside of Madras as well as the license plate number from the website/FB post. I also let the owner know via FB. Lots of people helping from what I can see. More eyes out there then better to catch the bums who took it.

Any updates? Did OSP Troopers check out the Scamp on the side of the road outside Madras? Hoping for good news for the owners - preferably sooner than later.

No news about a recovery as of last night. I'm keeping an eye on the original Facebook post, etc. Believe me, if it's found I'll let everyone know. Perhaps advenas knows more about what OSP may or may not have found/discovered?

Haven't heard a word from Oregon State Police. My assumption is they would contact the owner via the license plate number data if it was recovered.

I don't find that surprising. To respect the confidentiality of information, law enforcement agencies provide very little information back to third parties.

That put's the negative comments first made when you posted the theft into perspective.

Way to go getting the word out to as many people as possible. Many hands make light work and the more eyes looking the better chance someone will see something.

Happy for the owner. It's a sickening event to go though if the trailer is never recovered.

Glad it was found, hope it's not damaged in any way. Am sure the owner is tickled pink. When I get my trailer I will make sure to keep it in as safe a place as possible along with taking any other anti=theft measures I can think of. Suggestions welcomed and encouraged.

Best anti-theft device I've found is the California Immobilizer type B. made in Nanaimo, B.C. I bought one at Weststar in Cilliwack near ETI for $249 CD. Also available at Amazon for $219 US. Basically a boot which makes it very difficult to move a trailer with it on. If you're an Ocean's 11 type thief you could defeat the barrel lock but not likely for most others.

Anti-theft measures can all be defeated by the determined thief especially if the trailer is stored somewhere secluded where the thief has time. Certainly need to use some measures, but I love the idea of a hidden tracking device that alerts you when the trailer moves. $100/yr subscription but the peace of mind might be worth much more to some.

Thanks, Rossue.

I will add that to the list of must haves. It doesn't take long for someone to hook up to an unsecured trailer and haul it off never to be seen again. I am a firm believer in the old adage "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

Better glue it to the roof "It needs to be in clear view of the sky which in my opinion cancels out the covert tracking capabilities." I always check out reviews, outside the selling URL.

Dang that fine print....

Hell for stout hitch lock. Spendy but virtually unbreakable.

SPOT Trace Product
When the SPOT solution came up previously, I asked this:

I assume that a suitable installation in an Escape would be tucked above the lining and metalized insulation (in up-to-2016 models) against the ceiling out of sight in a cabinet... preferably one not readily visible when a cabinet door is opened, and definitely not one under a solar panel. It would make sense to wire it for power, to avoid having to dig it out for battery changes.

UPDATE: Stolen 2009 Scamp Recovered

It was found in good shape. Drug addicts took up residence but were evicted today by Kent WA police. It appears everything was still in it and minimal damage was done.

It's dirty and covered in fingerprint dust but we are glad to have it back. The power of Facebook is amazing. The owner's scamp was only found because of people sharing and spreading the word. The lead came directly from Facebook that lead to the police and us recovering it. Thanks to everyone that commented, shared, got the word out and let us know when they saw it.

Great news indeed!!!
