F=C(9/5) + 32

C=(F-32)(5/9)

What's so hard about that? (said the grad. mathematician).

P.S.
The sad part of this is: I can do these calcs. easily,
but it took me 5 minutes to fix all my spelling errors.

They make apps for that now. But it's much more fun to teach someone to do the math. Then just when they get confident, have them use -40° and watch the confusion on their faces.

You just described me too. I can do those calculations in my head in a heartbeat, and though I am a real fast typer, I seem to get more and more spelling mistakes as I age.

I would love to drink more of the yummy beers produced in Juneau, but certainly am not in favour of those highly flavoured ones which seem to be a rage. A wee bit of chocolate in a stout, or citrus in a hefeweizen, is fine for a couple mugs. The ulitmate beer faux pas was the Bud Light Lime. Actually a triple insult if you add in the fact it is Budweiser (though they do have handsome horses)

US Americans are in this regards just funny: In the lab scientists and engineers work only with metric measures, be it temperatures, volumes and weights. But as soon as they are asked to use it in the kitchen (which is btw nothing else than a lab; you also just measure things out), they are LOST!!!! And yes, below 0 Celsius you would measure snow, and above you would measure rain, as simple as it is.

For the rain and snow measurement, comparisons are ridiculously easy:

1 mm of rain = 1 cm of snow

10 mm = 1 cm

If you can't multiply or divide by 10 (MOVE THE DECIMAL!), you have bigger problems!

Celsius is "a" centigrade scale (that is, there are 100 degrees between freezing and boiling water). Kelvin is another centigrade scale (defined so that 0K is absolute zero, whereas 0C is the freezing point of water). Not sure how/when Celsius and centigrade got mixed up in the common vernacular.

The problem is never in doing the math, it is the lack of willingness to do the math, no matter how much easier it is.

Hello all.
Anders Celsius was a professor of astronomy born 1701 in Sweden.His father was in the same line of work.Anders invented the system.
Myself was born
and raised in Sweden so 49 years ago arriving in Canada I had to learn Fahrenheit.Then in the seventies Canada changed to Celsius.Here we go again as Canadians we use both systems.
Allan.

The degree Celsius (°C) can refer to a specific temperature on the Celsius scale as well as a unit to indicate a temperature interval, a difference between two temperatures or an uncertainty. Before being renamed to honour Anders Celsius in 1948, the unit was called centigrade, from the Latin centum, which means 100, and gradus, which means steps.

Thank you Wikipedia

Yeah, I felt a chill when I visited the church at Gamma Uppsala. And then realized that I was standing on Celsius's grave.

Even better is to no longer need to do the math. I know think more in km/kg/celsius than I do in non-metric units. I know that 10 is a bit cool, 20 is comfortable, 30 is a bit warm, and +40 is downright hot. 0 is time to think of long fingered gloves while riding. -40 is colder than the bottom of the man digging the well.

I think the U.S. screwed up when it stopped the metric conversion that was promised to me by my 5th grade teacher. so a few years ago I decided to "be the change I wanted to be", and changed the dip switch on our home thermostat so that it shows temp is celsius. All bike computers are set to metric. 30km/hr is much faster than 19 mph. The prius has a little button that changes the display from miles to km. But not the highlander. go figure.

best thing of all is that I have a wife who puts up with all this. :-)

Ah yes Jim, But how long is a 2" X 4"? And what are the other dimensions?

The length of a 38 x 89 varies, but the lengths varied. 2400, 3000, 3600.

Plywood was 1200 x 2400, with framing at 400 OC.

I built a couple homes using metric materials, until our government caved in to the demands from the US.

Having surveyed a lot over the years, using metric is many times easier than imperial. When I do cabinetry work I usually work in metric, as layout is so much easier.
