It's great that you unplug Jake, but may I point out - that would not have saved you or I in the situation I posted. That is, not if you use gasoline.

Gossip, rumor, group think, mass hysteria, etc. can still have a negative effect on everyone, whether they are "plugged in" or not. The only exceptions I can think of are the folks who live a completely self sufficient lifestyle, and there aren't too many of those.

I asked the local Amish business man how can he operate a business, process credit cards, sell food from a plugged in refrigerator, search on line, when they are not allowed to be connected via wires to the outside world, he replied "I lease everything... and use wireless". Now would the amish hacker accept a bitcoin is another story.

We wondered about the Amish while camping in Ronks PA a couple weeks ago. Their long industrial chicken coops have electric fans for ventilation.

During our last major power outage, I ran a extension cord from our trailer inverter into our home. I was able to power up the WiFi, TV, Cable Box and an LED lamp. Our home looked like Vegas. The neighbours were probably thinking we've got one really quiet generator.

I just read an article on this because I was curious. We don't have many Amish in this end of Canada. It seems they have a lot of rules and then a lot of exceptions or ways around the rules. From what I read, the electricity in a self contained Escape trailer would be acceptable. Phewwww! Sigh of Relief!!!!

We have a lot of Amish down here. During the winter they charter buses and comedown to winter in Pinecraft. And there are lots of both Amish and Mennonites who live here year round. They have a number of very good restaurants in the area and most of the large vegetable markets like Detwilers are Amish owned. My former supervisor before I retired was ex Amish who did not go back after Rumspringa. We used to laugh about how many sayings and traditions we had in common. Such as smelling der mist was good for your lungs.

Now that's a clever idea. I've used my trailer as a "lifeboat" before, to stay in when there was a problem with my house, but I never thought of using its inverter to bring power into the house. Thanks.

Right now it looks like Hurricane Irma may head into the Gulf of Mexico. My opportunity to try out your idea may come sooner than I'd wish.

"Irma" needs to stay away from the Gulf. We've no use for her here.

And speaking of rumors, rumor has it Irma is going to affect some of us Floridians. Jennykatz in Naples will defiantly feel effect from it. The spaghetti models look ominous for us and if it follows the European model it might cause issues for the West Palm and Miami areas.
The Miamians are already cleaning out the stores of water per news reports.
We have the trailer hooked to the truck and are going to see which direction we need to head out.
I spent to many years on hurricane restoration so I know what they can do.

There's a business south of us in the Amish country called the Appliance
Barn. There you can purchase a new clothes washing machine driven by a gasoline Briggs
and Stratton engine. I have a one lunger maytag gasoline engine (two cycle) and the twin cylinder opposed engine ( four cycle) off of two Amish washing machines . I've had them for years. Those old one lungers would hog down pretty good with a load of heavy bib overalls in the tub. Dryers: clothes line with all wooden clothes pin.

Hi Dave
Dried two loads today on my 4 liner. Clothes dried in the country feel pretty good and take
on a little aroma of the ambient sources. I'm just glad that big dairy Southeast of Blairstown is not in the direction of the prevailing winds.
