The Rhubarb sign...

It's been pretty cold so it was great to see some signs of spring- including this one! No trips planned until the end of April but that may change if this nice weather sticks around.

Yours must sit in a warmer place as I can't believe it has been that much warmer than down here. Mine's bigger than the above picture now but still not like yours.

I'm firmly convinced that Baglo has a trained garden gnome that covers his rhubarb at night to keep it warm, feeds it fertilizer cocktails and talks to it like a horse whisperer.

Every year it's the same. Oh well, mine might not be as big and plentiful but I'll still get some nice strawberry rhubarb pies out of it.

Happy to see that my first daffodil is out. The recent downpours had it beaten to the ground.

Well, I love rhubarb, stewed with ice cream and biscuits, or in a yummy pie. However, ours is still under 18" of dense packed snow. Methinks it will be the end of the month before we see it budding. The weather is finally warming up, forecast to hit double digits by the weekend, though more snow in the works for next week, and freezing every night in the 14 day forecast.

Hi: gbaglo... Try adding a drained can of pineapple tidbits to the still warm sweetened stewed rhubarb. They will turn pink but adds in some crunch. Great topping for vanilla frozen yogurt or ice cream!!! Alf

I love rhubarb pie, but with the long cold winter we have had this year, I am going to have to stick with poutine for a while longer, at least until the ground thaws a bit and the garden starts to grow again.

Crazy. Mine is doing well but nowhere near that size yet. But I planted more! And I'm eating fresh asparagus every other day now.

"Poutine"!! Everyone around here calls it "loaded fries" but you folks up there have to give it a hoity-toity-sounding French name...

At least you may have put a stop to a real rhubarb here.

Poutine or Rhubarb - not a favourite. After looking at this post I looked at my rhubarb plant today, it has already bolted to seed.

I just read the prior post about retiring to Canmore or Victoria. Good reason not to consider Victoria area, rhubarb grows too fast.

Victoria is a great place to live, climate, culture, excellent restaurants, lots of brew pubs - but ya gotta drive 3.5 hours to go skiing. Remember, home is where you hang your hat!

You're supposed to remove those seed stalks.

Although I have pulled the seed stalks on rhubarb all my life, it sounds brutal to me now to eliminate a living thing that has “gone to seed” seems personal now.

Yikes, mines gone to seed also. It says that "the older the rhubarb is, the more it goes to seed". Your right, it does seem personal.

Well this seed is about to go to compost. I like my strawberry/rhubarb pies too much to let it waste energy making flowers.
