Drove into Horse thief BLM CG, in UT to find kids sitting on a number of unoccupied sites. Stopped at one and asked the girl if the site was empty, she said she wasn't sure, had to wait for her parents to make another lap.

That was a first.

To me that means yes.

And, when the kid starts screaming that you assaulted her?

Darn Utah wind shifts 180 degrees every afternoon, doesn't work like that in MA.

We learned our lesson in Glacier. We spoke to the guys next to us and they said they were moving out the next morning so we'd be able to have their campsite for our son, who was arriving the next day. Whoever occupies a site has the right to renew the next day as long as they do it by 11 A.M., even if the tag says they are leaving that day. I thought we'd be okay and that I'd pay and put a tag on it the next morning before they moved out, but someone came by at 6 A.M., paid and put a tag on the post and left. The camp hosts felt bad for us, but said that since the site had been paid for, we lost it -- the guys in the site were angry at this situation -- and ready to pay for another night in their name just to make things difficult for the usurpers, but we didn't want to go there.

Anyway, it's too complicated to explain in detail, but long story short two sites opened up the next day right on the river with a great view and great access and this time we had our tag on the post the instant it was possible to do so.

Our time in Glacier was wonderful, but the following summer when we thought about the competition for sites, we decided to skip Yellowstone and head to the Tetons.
