US-Canada border slash

Something to look at on Google Earth when you have time on your hands:

It isn’t everywhere a “slash through the trees”. Between Mileta, Manitoba and Westhope, ND it is a slash of hay between the wheat fields on either side. Adjoining landowners bale the hay. And nearby it is a slash through a small lake. Good thing that the border is marked through the lake: the creel limit is higher on the Canadian side.

We had a TV series "Canada Over the Edge" that followed the whole border coast to coast. It was very interesting.

We have "US over the edge" just outside of our town. We have a dirt, Red River clay road actually, runs parallel to the border appropriately called Boundary Road. The border is actually about fifteen feet off the road but the farmers in MN plow, plant, and harvest right up to the road on that bit of "free" land.

Seems to me to be a colossal waste of taxpayer money. According to the article, the border markings are not even accurate. Good money after bad.

No, but as long as there is a clear marking close to the border, people won't accidentally wander over it... which is an occasional problem in places without tree cover.
