What's in YOUR Freezer?
One of the many things I am loving about having bought our new to us Escape 21 a few months ago is a freezer....no more buying ice for the cooler every few days to keep those things really cool that the Scamp fridge did not.
Mine has 5 pints of those little babies in the picture....fresh, organic raspberries from Graymarsh Farms in Sequim, WA. (Where we have been homing for the holiday weekend). One filet each of fresh King Salmon and Halibut. Farm fresh sliced zucchini and a pint of Goat's Milk Vanilla Ice Cream.
So? Just for fun. What's in YOUR freezer?
Josie

For me there's only two food groups, beer and meat. I keep frozen meat in the freezer, she can't make enough ice to keep my beer cold. For that I go to town, where I buy Ice and more beer. If I don't go to the grocery store about 5 times a week I get to feeling like a hermit. Last week I went on Thursday, Friday Saturday and Monday. Had a lot of company over the weekend so I have to go again to get , what else, more beer.'

Or better yet, tequila and tonic. With a twist of lime, of course.

Hmm . . . I have the standard size Fridge in my 19 so the freezer is quite tiny. Right now it contains 6 ice cubes (enough for 1 adult beverage), a salmon filet, a chicken breast, package of frozen peas. Pretty stuffed.

For some reason at the end of any tent camping trip the sought after items were any ice cold beverage, and Ice Cream. You're likely to find a half gallon in our freezer.

Yeah, it's a NovaKool, which is compressor based. Of course, Steve has a ton of solar capacity (4 panels) so he can power such a setup when boondocking.

We could use a report on how it has all worked out. Cost/effectiveness.

I haven't kept track of total costs but it was high and I did all the work. The refrigerator was around $1800. Three solar panels were around $1600. I don't remember the cost of my programmable solar controller. It was a lot of work doing the install and I have 4 six volt batteries. I had the rear bumper extended and modified like the 17, centered the spare tire and moved 2 batteries to the rear to reduce the tongue weight. Tongue weight dropped from 600 to 450...right where I want it (11%). Ran two 1/0 1000 conductor welding cables (15 lbs) (red and black) from the back to the front batteries with heavy duty soldered marine terminals. Voltage drop from back to front is unmeasurable with my fluke volt meter.
The refrigerator has been in for over a year and I haven't even come close to running out of power even in crappy weather. Last month in Yellowstone I was charging 6 amps in pouring rain. That week it rained, snowed, hailed, thunder stormed and I was always fully charged by early afternoon. The NovaKool refrigerator with solar is great.
