I'm currently trying to decide if I should take my two portable 40 watt solar panels or my Honda 1000i on my fishing trip next week.

Proof that if you're willing to invest the time and effort and money, there IS a permanent solution to the rv fridge problem. Of course, it's beyond the means of many.

Many have installed truck frig . If you don't need a huge refrigerator , it comes 120 and 12 volt . In between always a Extreme cooler . They have been installing home refrigerators in larger RV 's for some time now . Yes they also have generators . Depends on how far you want to go with this . Our Extreme cooler goes at least 10 days with not a whole lot of ice . The fixes to our refrigerator have been impressive . Someday something else may come along .we are not worrying about this any more . Just my 2 cents . Pat

The hot dog is hands down the absolute worst food in the universe, made with mystery meats, acids and nitrates, not fit for man or beast. Except perhaps, on the 4th of July here, when I would be willing to do my patriotic duty and even serve them without concern for their health to a republican.

Myron there are some good hot dogs , no nitrates , better quality , apple gate is one . There are more too . If we buy hot dogs it is what we buy . Pat

Hi: MyronL... One credit I'll give to my American cousins is making a good hotdog. Up north of the 49th. we're no allowed to have that much fat or moisture added to our weiners. I like mine deep fried then grilled to reduce the fat and placed in a steamed bun loaded with onions,sauerkraut, mustard, and French's ketchup. Now that's a good DOG!!! Alf

Myron, I am with you all the way. With so many great options for sausages, and really next to none with wieners, I much prefer the former. With our kids gone for many years now, the only time we have seen them in our house is when grandkids are around, and even then not all the time. My wife always has good hot Italian, brats, Spolumbos, or other much yummier (and healthier) foods on hand.

Not that I wouldn't eat a weiner, it has been many years, and I just prefer something with more to it if available.

One advantage of the 5 cu ft older refrigerator is while it doesn't have a separate door, the freezer is a pretty good size.

Right now all that is in it is air, since I'm not leaving for Maine until the 20th. Then there will be Bubba Burgers, Cooked Perfect Italian frozen meatballs, frozen chicken thighs, at least a pint of Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Ice Cream, and one or two Amy's Enchilada Dinners. It is also likely that a couple of Amy's Bean & Cheese Burritos and a couple of El Monterey Chicken & Monterey Jack Cheese Chimichangas will end up there as well. I take all the frozen stuff out of the boxes (well, except the ice cream) to save space, and keep the freezer very full since it keeps better temperatures with less air space. Even in 85°F temperatures, the freezer is usually below 0°F.

While I have an ice cube tray that fits, I rarely drink anything that needs ice, so I don't often fill it.

I have four 6 volt batteries to power my refrigerator and other goodies for boon-docking. I wanted to share a picture of the rear of my 19 with the bumper modified to accept two of the 6 volt batteries. The bumper was extended, battery box supports welded-in and spare tire centered. Tongue weight went down from 600 to 450 now when I moved two of the batteries to the back. The battery boxes are both locked with 3/8" hardened cables and combination locks.



Another thing I want to mention. I have been plagued with wet tops from time to time on my 6 volt batteries since I got them because of road bumps and movement and bubbling out a little when charging. When I planned to move two batteries to the back I got concerned that with the extra movement back there it could be even worse. I eliminated this by replacing the battery vent caps with Water Miser Battery Caps. No more wet surfaces on my batteries.

Thanks for the tip on the Water Miser caps Steve. Does their standard size fit the Interstate 6V batteries?

Holy cow these Water Miser caps are not too much $ when purchased direct

water miser safety vent cap $4 each recommended

Yes, mine are Interstate and they screwed right on. They are pricey but I'm tired of wet batteries...
