Where Did I Get All This Stuff?

We are packing and getting ready to move out of our house. We sold it and are building a home in the Hill Country.

Sheesh. Where did I get all this stuff? I don't recall moving here 12 years ago being this hard.

Spent a couple hours tonight taking photos and posting for sale ads on Craigslist. Too much stuff. Has to go.

I spent the first fifty years acquiring stuff and the second fifty years will be spent getting rid of it.

Good luck...

That must be it Karen. Last time we moved I was in my 40's and hadn't learned yet.

I tried not to Ron. I really did. Still too much stuff. I made a deal with myself to cut it in half - at least.

Hoarding

Hi Robert
I know what you mean. I live by two tag lines.
1. My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my stuff for what I told her I paid for it.
2. I am not a hoarder, I just have an inventory control problem.
I wish I owned a few hundred storage garage units and a 5 acre secure storage lot near any fair sized city. I could retire, oh wait I am retired. Best of luck
Dave

I think your wife and mine are related Dave.

Speaking of fear, she politely told me she got rid of a "bunch of things in the garage that you never use". I was panic stricken, but then I remembered my promise. "Good job honey."

I used to stress over all my 'valuable stuff '. Now I just casually ask my friends their address and any important contact numbers ... they look at me strangely and say "Why .... you know how to get hold of me?" Then I tell them that I went to my lawyer today and have put you in my will to inherent everything in my shop.

Usually they fall crying to the ground crying ...." Not me ... tell me it isn't so! "

I smile with the realization that I no longer have to worry about cleaning out my shop..... and ... I can keep it all!

What are friends for anyway?

Tom

We are currently dealing with too much stuff in our Escape! The biggest laugh is the clamshell screen tent that is taking up half the Highlander and we haven't opened it once!!! I told Terry that if we don't use it in the Tetons then we are putting it up for sale in the campground. What was I thinking when we bought it?

I hear you loud and clear Robert. We are dealing with the same thing.

A huge part of our 12 hour work days on our home to get it ready to list over the last 4 1/2 weeks, has been a big purge. Pawning stuff on kids and friends, many trips to Good Will, and a few dump trailer full to landfill. Still quite a ways to go. Too much stuff. We both have our collections, all my good stuff and all LIsa's junk.

We are getting somewhere though. Major house cleaning today with a couple hired girls, then the first part of staging tomorrow. Still LOTS of small stuff to do, and we have not even gone outside to do things there.

We get possession of our next house Aug 11, but doubt we will move in for some time.

Oh, and to add to the mix, I have a huge rental garage primarily for work related stuff, and was given notice to be out by the end of the month, as the place was sold to a developer that is mowing everything down and building new. 20 some years of collecting more good stuff. Tools I will keep, some I will sell in time. Most materials I will give away or send to landfill.

Oh, and I just rented another double garage to store work and personal stuff in until we quit working and rebuilding houses.

Funny, we just went through the same thing moving from the Hill Country to San Antonio (Hill Country Retreat). Got rid of a lot of stuff but a lot of it is residing in climate controlled storage awaiting anorther sorting and eventual disposal. We ran out of time getting rid of it after the house sold and it had to go someplace! Arrrrgh!

This happens to many folks, ourselves now included. We have accumulated hordes of stuff in the last 22 years living in this house. I have done lots of jobs for folks that just gave up and moved almost everything, much of it to sit in boxes for years.

Dave,
I sold my Bigfoot to a guy outside Omaha who lives in your dream place.
I pulled up with the Bigfoot and he said, "Can you back it in here?" Heck yes, even I could do that - it had a slide-up door 15 feet tall and 20 feet wide! I've rarely had camping spots as big as that building. And that wasn't even his shop!
He was so excited to get my '87 Bigfoot and has exactly the right place to restore it this winter.
Maybe he has a neighbor with a farm for sale. If you see a Bigfoot fifth wheel, stop by and say "Hi!" Maybe it'll be Leonard. How many can there be in Nebraska?
Rich

My gosh, Jim! When did you see my house? That was supposed to be a secret!
When my first wife divorced me all she wanted was the camera and the car. She's no fool.

It's quiet a commentary on a society where so many people pay to store "stuff" in Storage Facilities, isn't it?

Good to hear I'm not the only Escape owner with this problem. We now have until August 8th to either move it or get rid of it (not the trailer...lol). Tick tock.

Or they buy a bigger place for their stuff.[emoji1]

In our case though, I justify that by saying it's a place for my trailer too, so that makes it all better.....

Jim, we had to build the house that has two bedrooms and the garage holds 5 cars and a carport for the trailer.
