The best park maintenance foreman ever worked for me, I’m proud to say. He retired a year ago and bought a house in Minnesota. Bump up Embarrass Minnesota and you’ll know what winter really is. Back at the ranch this week -27F Tuesday AM and -31F Wednesday AM. And that’s not wind chill. We will be fine as I brought all the statuary in last October. 38 F and raining by next Saturday.

This winter in the Okanagan part of BC and down through wine country to the US boarder it has been constantly at freezing or above. Much warmer than normal. The vineyard operators say if we do not get a day or two well below freezing that the ice wine crop will be lost.

If you’ve ever hunted a spaniel in a field of cockleburrs is not a very long jump to inventing Velcro. If they quit hunting and lay down, it means they have one between their toe pads.
That’s my experience. We have a 103! Acre pheasant restoration plot next to us now. Rita had Jake out there for about 45 minutes one day in December and flushed over 30 birds. Here’s why my bird feeder keeps going empty

We have a motion sensor alarm on our security cameras Dave. I had to bypass the alarm within a few days of moving in though. The Deer would set it off constantly. They're thick as flies here, along with the massive flocks of wild Turkeys and the occasional pack of Coyotes.

How is it in WI today Steve? Is it as cold as here where winter IS definitely happening, right now it's still -33C or 27F and with the windchill it feels like -51C or -60F. Just walked the dog (a short one) and don't think I'll plan on cleaning the snow off the trailer today or tomorrow either when we get another bitterly cold day. Four weeks today we leave for the south, can hardly wait.

Meanwhile I think this will be the year to take down the old garage and build a shelter for both trailer and truck! For the poster who asked about the height of the 5.0TA as Donna said and you can see from photo that with an antenna mounted that's for certain the highest point.

I will send photos from down here to warm you up.

Seeing up a new phone so don't have photos absurdly. I did just take this one off my brother, my wife and my dog while we finish our morning coffee. Currently 20°C and starting to warm up. [emoji41]Click image for larger version

Getting even colder

You guys do look warm, I could be jealous but think next year we should plan to leave in Jan instead of end of Feb. Might even do AZ again depending on what's happening in GA with family.

Meanwhile the wind has increased here so with windchill feels like -52C or -62F

I prefer moderation, winter and summer.
Got some green for you. Rhubarb poking out.

I feel so bad for everyone dealing with this extremely cold weather. I've got friends in Manitoba that are suffering... and the animals! Domestic, farm and wild. Do what you can and please be safe.

On a lighter note, this popped in on my timeline on Facebook.

It’s cold but it doesn’t last all that long. The older you get, the better prepared you learn to be coming into the winter. I think this is especially true if you live in the country or where there’s a possibility of not being able to get out for a day or two. We’ve lived in the country 12 years this time and several years other times. It is too cold to get much work done outside. They are surely going to have a lot of school makeup days this spring. My mother was a one room schoolhouse teacher in the late 30’s. When we had snow days as kids, we did extra chores in the morning, a school lesson mid day and then outside to play for anywhere from a few minutes to an hour. Growing up in the Midwest with runner sleds, snow forts, pond skating, was great.

Up in snow country there are doors on the second floor and sometimes they get snowed in for months, best to always have a 6 month supply of Spam on hand

I have a few cans of SPAM downstairs. In the fall they have Progresso soup
For 88 cents a can. I buy about 75 cans. Then make sure I have a couple hundred pounds of meat in the freezer. Last week, eggs were 77cents a dozen and I saw the cold weather coming in. The layers don’t do well when it gets real cold and the price will go to about two bucks a dozen or a little better so I bought 5 dozen. We used to buy a 30 dozen case when I was a kid and keep them upstairs for several months. I buy those Amish bean mixes in the fall and keep them in fruit jars. Nothing like a couple ham hocks and a good bean soup. I think I’ll be ok Jim, gonna make a big deer chili for the Super Bowl. It’ll be warmer by then.
