Central Oregon has no signs of winter - it has been in the 90's all week. There are probably enough fires around the state to keep winter away this year! I just settled in at Clyde Holliday State Park for a couple of days & the smoke is noticeable...

This is a series of photos from a friend on Facebook. This is the Rogue Valley, right at the town of Rogue River. We're burning up!

Yea, I was planning to do some waterfall photos along OR 138 until I saw a Facebook post by Nancy Wolfe. Any part or Oregon not burning?

I don't think so Jon . I had to run to the store a bit ago, and my truck was covered in ash... I'm guessing from the wild fire east of me in the Gorge.

We have lots of signs of an early winter here in SouthEast Alaska ... Juneau in particular. This summer broke all time rain records in Ketchikan and I'm not sure about Juneau because weather data hasn't been released, but it has been by far the wettest summer I have seen since moving here 37 years ago.

Not only lots of rain but the clouds have been so thick that it frequently seems a bit dark out ... even mid day. My garden shut down and went to seed almost a month early this year. My broccoli plants .... usually nearly 3' tall only reached about 12" high with heads about the size of a marble. The leaves are starting to turn.

But the surest sign of all of an early, extra cold winter is that while driving down the road with a Native American as my passenger, he turned to me and said "cold early winter" while pointing at a white man chopping a whole bunch of firewood.

That is one bad situation. Hope it improves for you.

These are sad reports for sure. Oregon is one of our favorite destinations.

Anyone planning on traveling in Oregon or Washington, the link below is good for fire locations...

https://gacc.nifc.gov/nwcc/information/firemap.aspx

Washington just declared a state of emergency for all Washington counties due to fire danger.

Smoke from the gorge fire is reaching all the way into Puget Sound. Bad year for fires for sure! Let's hope we get some moisture off the Pacific soon.

This is ash on my truck from the Gorge fire, taken about 5 minutes ago. The other photo is from a news organization of the Gorge. I-84 is now closed both directions from Troutdale (about 3 miles east of me) to Hood River. We are so damn dry, we're all hoping the ash falling in Portland doesn't contain fire embers, or the whole dang city of Portland may burn down!

I know so many areas of the country are suffering. Fires, floods and now the hurricane threatening Florida and the gulf states. I know a number of Escape owners have traveled the Columbia River Gorge. What's happening right now....

Working in Salem the next few days and flew into Portland this morning. To the east of the fires, the skies are clear. Toward Portland, not so much.
