Winter musing...

As I sit here, looking out to my frozen yard, ice covered BlackJack, 15 degrees, going down to zero this weekend, have not seen the sun for a week, I begin to think. What am I doing here?

Surrounded by 2 dogs and 3 cats, we all have cabin fever, Franklin is turning 12, Hershey is approaching 8 and my big 70 is next week, What am I doing here?

I have to empty BlackJack and deliver to North Carolina, send my deposit to Escape, get my hitch installed, and do my taxes, all involving money, What am I doing here?

Tuscon, Texas, Florida, all warm weather and camping right now, What am I doing here?

Jon V. has been at Quartzhite since before Christmas, the winter mecca of rv'ers
from all over, basking in the sun, What am I doing here?

Anyone else asking themselves, What am I doing here?

I ask myself that all the time Jim. The answer is inevitably "working". Were I retired, you can bet I'd be camping. The weather here allows it year round. Today's high? 84.

I "escaped" the north east 29 years ago to the mountains of North Carolina. 3 weeks ago, we got 15 inches of snow. On February 1St, I paddled my canoe in a short sleeve shirt. Last weekend, I hiked 8.5 miles in beautiful mountains. Just a short drive for warm weather camping. We live where we do because of 3 different reasons: we were born here, work brought us here, we decided to live here. I prefer the third reason.

I have to admit I'm enjoying the 85°F days this week, and I'm enjoying the Fiberglass rally here at Quartzsite, but after being in one place for 84 days, I am also wondering "What am I Doing Here?"

I will hit the road to another LTVA camping area called Imperial Dam at the end of the rally, then make a slow move to Big Bend, TX and Townsend, TN over the next couple of months. It will be great to be back on the move!

When we get cabin fever and the winter blahs, we head out for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, especially in Glacier National Park. No, it's not camping but it will do for now.

I like winter.
Single parent, raised three daughters in Alaska.
Daughters left home for college.
Met ski bum in Whistler, ski bum lived in Vancouver, moved to Alaska.
Bought “snowbird” retirement home outside of Bellingham, so ski bum could be close to Vancouver.
Spring skiing at Whistler, Mount Baker
Drank a lot of beer and ate burgers at Bob’s in Sumas
Grandkids in Alaska and Iowa.
Bought Escape trailer in Chilliwack
For now, full time in Alaska.
When we retire “full time” in a couple of years,
Summers and fall in Alaska.
Winters and spring in Washington and all points South and East.

Life is good. Scott

Scott and Lori.

Was that Bob's Burger and Brew kitty corner to the John Deere dealership in Lynden WA. by any chance? We used to drive down there on the bikes for lunch or over to the Holy Smoke Pub. Ah the good old days.

Cheers

Actually the Bob's in Sumas. It kind of blew my mind that we spent over a decade in that area and it was delivered to Bob's in Sumas. It can be a small world. Scott

We're heading from Vermont to Utah in 10 days, then to the coldest, snowiest part of North America we can find. Different strokes it guess.
