There are many tow vehicles of various types which can handle an Escape 17'. If anyone is interested in a mid-size pickup truck type, the new Chevrolet Colorado is quite similar to the Tacoma and Frontier, and might be of interest. It is so new that no one has had a chance to buy one and tow an Escape with it.
I looked at one here in the US, but the equivalent of the Tacoma I specified was almost $4,000.00 more. Nice looking truck though.

Yes, the Colorado will get a diesel for the next model year. I didn't intend to re-launch the seemingly endless diesel discussion, just to add one currently available alternative which should be reasonably comparable to the trucks already being considered.

In the current Colorado, the appropriate variant would presumably be one with the 3.6 L V6. That puts out 305 hp, which is more than any pickup had for decades of trailer towing until a few years ago; I don't know why two more cylinders would be required to tow an Escape 17'.

Also looked and test drove. Not as comfortable for me and my short stature. Also found to be about $4 to 5K more for similar configure as the Frontier SL with tow package. Bought the Frontier.
