25000 km in our 17A without even a soft tire

Just have to share this around.

We left Victoria July 26/10, and were on the road for 100 days (92 of which were spent in the trailer), during which time we were as far south as Chicago, as far west as Burwash Landing YT, as far north as Dawson City, and as far east as Ottawa. We didn't experience even a soft tire. With the exception of a burned out bulb outside the trailer door, everything performed flawlessly. And we had support on the road from Tammy and Reace -- when I tore the propane tank cover by accident (sometimes I don't know my own strength, even in my 8th decade!), they mailed another to us at an upcoming stop. It was also a learning experience, especially of the pitfalls of not making sure the trailer and the tow vehicle are level and in line with one another before unhitching (having parked with the car's rear wheels in an invisible dip in the ground at a Toronto-area park). Hitching up again resembled an aircraft-carrier landing in its need for precision and planning!

A high point of the trip (though not part of the Escape experience) was the phone call we received in Dawson City from our daughter & son-in-law in Toronto -- they're expecting (first child, first grandchild for us) in late April, so here's another reason to take off with the trailer in the spring and go visit the new family.

My wife's blog goes into more detail if anyone would like to have a look at the Yukon as seen through the camera of these two retirees! <http://idohaveamap.blogspot.com/>

Re: 25000 km in our 17A without even a soft tire

I copied and pasted into Google:

http://idohaveamap.blogspot.com/

Once again, however I got messed up reading from the last entry back to the first, because the last entry is what you see first.
A lot to read, so I have to go back, but good pix.

I went to Dawson on assignment in the early '70s. Owner of the hotel bought us drinks at the bar, which we took out to his truck ( in hotel glassware ) and then he drove us up to the graveyard to see the headstones of some of the characters from the gold rush days. Fascinating. I asked about drinking and driving, and he assured me that ( at that time in the Yukon ) drinking and driving was OK. Driving drunk would get you in the slammer. They hadn't yet begun the process of restoring the town and turning it into a tourist destination. I recall a building on the verge of falling over, with 2X4s holding it up, and inside was a piano and other debris of years past. Remembering that experience makes me reluctant to return to a shiny new 'old' town.

That sounds like a fantastic trip. I have only read a couple entries, but have bookmarked the blog for future reading.
