5.0 compaired to 5.0TA ?

OK Guys and Galls is there a big interior size difference between the 5.0 and the 5.0TA? I have 9 years before I make it to retirement and hit the road. I don't want to jump to soon and by a loaded used 5.0 If it is that much smaller on the inside. It will be my wife and I and at least 1 small dog. My gut is telling me to wait and get the newly designed 5.0TA. (by the way I'm 6'5" tall.)
All Thoughts Welcome!
Thanks, Jason

Jason, if you're six/five your feet will really extend beyond the 76 inch bed in the single axle, not sure what length the bed is on the TA, someone will chime in I am sure.

Current specs on the website for the 5.0TA state a 60"x80" front bed. Interior height varies from 6'-4" to 7'. I'm sure this is for the current model 5.0TA. Does anyone know if there are dimension changes for the 2017+ model? If I've heard correctly there isn't even one out of the mold yet.

Hi: kirkman... We've owned both!!! The TA is 8" longer 8" wider and 5" taller. The mattress is a full 60X80 Queen size. Doesn't sound like a lot but believe me it is. Despite the bigger size I'm still tuggin' with my same truck. Alf

I looked at a 5.0 before getting the 5.0TA. Being 6'2" I liked the full queen mattress and the wider aisle of the TA, which I believe is where the 8" went. I don't remember the headroom of the 5.0 but you'd have no problem with the TA. My only size issue is the shower, it's pretty small, width wise.

Comparing the 5.0 (original Escape fifth-wheel, single axle) and the current 5.0TA (2014 to 2016, tandem axles), the most noticeable differences are
  • single (5.0) verus tandem axles (5.0TA)
  • different suspension type (5.0 has Torflex; 5.0TA has beam axles and leaf springs)
  • 20 cm or 8 inches of body width difference (5.0TA is wider)
While I would prefer to tow the narrower trailer and don't want the tandem axles, the extra width will make a difference and most people would prefer the 5.0TA, even though the extra width in front means more space is needed between the truck cab and hitch. Nine years from now the newest 5.0 will be 11 years old, and even the newest 5.0TA will be almost nine years old... so a used 2014-2016 5.0TA sometime in the next few years seems like a reasonable choice.

Comparing the 2014-2016 5.0TA to the next (2017+) version, the known differences are:
  • sloped side walls side walls of body (current) versus vertical (new)
  • beam axles and leaf springs (current) versus Torflex axles (starting 2017)
  • various details common to all new Escapes
The same design approach as the current 5.0TA applied to the new vertical-walled body would make the sleeping loft (the front part over the truck) very bulky. It might go this way, or Reace might have a different design - we haven't seen the mould, so this is still an unknown. The design chosen will be significant to a comparison of the current and new 5.0TA.

In nine years you will be an inch or two shorter.

Jason, according to taller people, Escapes are not really 6'5" so you would not quite fit standing, for one thing. Sounds as if you would surely want the TA though.

In the files, download the Escape 5.0TA (Classic) Brochure here: Escape Trailer Owners Community - Downloads - Escape 5.0TA Classic Brochure
this is the original brochure, not the red one.

Download the 5.0 brochure here: Escape Trailer Owners Community - Downloads - Escape 5.0 Brochure

these should both help you with the comparisons.

Good luck!

No one mentioned this, but the 8 inch width seems to be all in the aisle. It is really noticeable when Joanne and I are both moving around.
