A tip-up sink!

After reading the older thread about the travels of the 5.0 classic landing in The Netherlands, I got curious about what fiberglass trailers are available in Europe. Just started with the google search, but found this little tidbit.

This trailer has a tip-up sink! Now, how cool is that?

Look at the photos under the larger one of the trailer and you'll see it folded up. I wonder how common that is.

Mind you, I'm not going to ask for that modification (don't want to get kicked out of the factory when I ask about that one!), but it does make you wonder!

Freedom Microlite Caravan, small, lightweight, 2 berth

here you go, a dutch factory of Fiberglass trailers. No 5th wheel for sure but very nice (and expensive) caravans.

You can, to great extend, design you onw interior.

This company has been around the block since 1965!

Not sure what you mean by tip-up sink. That looks similar to the glass lid SMEV sink/stove combo we put in our Escape.

This is the one I bought to put in my daughter's Trillium 1300. I actually much prefer this, as we never use the third burner on ours.

Maybe you have to flip it back up to drain out the water. There seems to be some kind of containment below the sink where it is hinged. Could be a drain in there?

That is quite likely. What is not very likely, is that it would actually get used by us. A simple basin would be better. A basin is so much more flexible, as we usually use it outside, or put on the table, or the counter...... At least that is what we are used to for washing up, as we find the sink in the Escape bath is too small and cramped to be useful for washing.

I guess one could just use a large, upside down hard hat?

Sorry, not following. But, it you are asking about where they came from, I got the one in my trailer through Escape, as they were putting them in the Trilliums they were building for Tom Young at the time. It is CSA approved. The one for my daughters trailer, I bought in the UK, and even though built very much the same, it is not CSA approved, so Escape could not install it.

Seef, is that the Freedom trailers? They listed a UK address and price in pounds, so I thought they were a British company. Who makes them in The Netherlands?

I did find a company that makes 5th wheel fiberglass trailers, from 5th Wheel Co. Even has a slide! Not cheap, though.

And I looked up your Isuzu truck. I'm so jealous you can still get Isuzu vehicles. They pulled out of North America for private vehicles some years ago. I had an Isuzu Trooper for 21 years. Bought it new Dec 1989 and sold it in Sept 2010 (and saw it around town for up to 3 years after that). Loved it!

They're great trucks. Durable, powerful and very fuel efficient. Severinus' truck is even cooler -- it has a higher cab roof. He had to have it modified in order to comply with his country's regulations for using it as a tow vehicle.

I read about that in the thread of when his trailer was shipped over by container. I was wondering if the roof is still durable or if raising it weakened it. And it seemed like a really strange thing to do.

Hi: NW Cat Owner... I believe raising the cab roof was for business/ tax reasons. They have such different rules on their side of the pond. Alf

No that is not same as the freedom trailers. It is an independent company called BIOD.

Yep, investigated them too as we were searching for a 5th wheel. It was a candidate together with Scamp till we stumbled upon Escape.

I had no prior experience with trucks (if you don't count a 1955 Ford F100 as a truck, but i'm very, very happy with our ISUZU truck. Has great torque, does a decent milage and runs almost as a normal luxury car. As stated before, it pulls the 5.0 with ease across the Swiss mountains

Yes, some like this have no drain in the bowl, and are drained by flipping them up. I think I've seen a design with a drain which exits horizontally at the back, so the bowl pivots back around the drain axis. The other approach is a flex hose from the bowl to a trap mounted on the wall.

That is a very nice folding sink. I looked all over for a folding sink to add to my 17b 5 years ago and couldn't find one so I improvised with a mixing bowl as shown here. It has come in very handy for the 4 of us.
