Asking for help from a Midwest Escape Owner

Hello All,

I'm interested in seeing an Escape "in the flesh" to help evaluate a future purchase decision. I'm located in the Madison, Wisconsin area. Is there anyone in the general area (200 miles) and willing to show their Escape? I'm not in any hurry, I just want to see one.
Thanks,
Tom

Welcome to the forum! Be sure to check out Jeff's videos and the training video for more views. He also did a comparison study that you might find interesting.

Sandra,

Where would be the location for Jeff's comparison? I've seen the video twice, but not come across the trailer comparison.

Re: Asking for help from a Midwest Escape Owner

Tom,
Go to the top righthand corner of this page and click on zimodecast.com. That will take you to the main page. The comparison was done September 2008, and you will have to get it under the "movies" category. The other one is still listed in the October 2008 podcast. By the way some of the other videos feature trips that they've taken in the Escape!
Enjoy!

Re: Asking for help from a Midwest Escape Owner

Hello,

Next question for the forum. I'm unable to see a 17B, but I am investigating a used 2008. The owner has sent a picture of it, and there is not an air conditioner on the roof. This rig does have an air conditioner. Where is the air conditioner placed in the "older" models? Is it a typical 110V room type unit?

P.S. Anyone have experience towing with a Toyota 2000 Sienna or similar size mini-van? It's got the tow package, and rated to 3,500 lb tow capacity, 300 hitch. I would certainly be adding a tranny cooler and weight distribution hitch and rigging the electric brake system. Any other mods suggested to improve towing other than keeping cargo weight down?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Asking for help from a Midwest Escape Owner

Hello again,

Still another question.
What is the exact style or type of electrical connector on a 17'B? 7 pin? Round or flat spade contacts?

Thanks

Tom

Re: Asking for help from a Midwest Escape Owner

Hi Habberdabber

We owned a 2005 17 foot Plan B for 2 1/2 years and pulled it with a 2005 Sienna with just the regular factory tow package. We used an equalizer hitch. We had no problems weight wise but we did try to keep our water and waste tank levels low. We did an over 6,000 km Alaska/Yukon tour and got between 7.5 and 8 km per litre.

It's a wall mount unit and it goes above the fridge, in the space shown here for the microwave:

I don't have one myself, but this is what I found earlier.

Re: Asking for help from a Midwest Escape Owner

Let me know if the PM messages aren't working and I'll look into it.. Usually it's automatic.. when you sign on there's a little status box showing your logon and if you have any messages.. also you should get an email to the email address you used when joining the forum.. You might want to check to see if that notification email went to "spam" on your email client.. if so just let the email client know it's not "spam" and all subsequent messages should go through..

Re: Asking for help from a Midwest Escape Owner

My 2005 Toyota Sienna was aftermarket equipped with a 7 pin (6 "spades" 1 roundish) electrical connector. It hooked right up to the Escape that I "trial towed".
Hopefully this answers one of your questions.

Hi FB,
The reason no one has responded is: When they type your name, they get this enormous sensation of hunger for a Fudge Brownie and cup of coffee, that they have to get up and get one. Then, they're so satisfied, they forget about the response : - ) Excuse me, I'm hungry....gotta go
