baglo photo

In this morning's Vancouver Sun page A15 was a photo taken by our own baglo.

Very Nice! Love the "glow" around the family...

That glow isn't supposed to be obvious ( I didn't print this copy ). But, I have to admit that it was very difficult to print.
I have the original 11 X 14 that I printed, but I have no idea where in this tiny house it is.

If you look at the picture as printed in the Vancouver Sun newspaper (which is where this photo bvansnell presented above came from) you can see the effect the large white lettering on the back page behind this photo has. I think that is where most of the glow effect comes from - poor quality from a newspaper.

There is a large, slanted, capital letter 'E' which extends from the guys head down towards and offset to the photo right of the woman's lower back and gives this effect. Not a mystery glow print.

The Vancouver Sun and Province newspapers are presenting an exhibit of a history of Vancouver recounted through newspaper photographs. The show is at the Satellite Gallery in Vancouver. This according to an article in the Wed, Feb 13, Vancouver Sun. Apparently Glen has some of his photos in this exhibit as well (one from the Gastown Riots in 1971). http://www.satellitegallery.ca

I subscribe to the electronic version of the Vancouver Sun. I took a screen shot of baglo's photo and converted it to a jpg image, which is what I posted.

I can't explain why JohnB can see ghost images in the version I posted unless it was in the electronic version the Sun posted. I did not scan the newspaper. Does the Sun scan the newspaper to create the electronic edition or post an image of the page in the paper? I don't know.

I have no idea how they came up with the online version. The Old Bag went to the show today and they indeed have framed the pic and mounted it on the wall. Apparently it is 11" x 14" and has the blue crop marks on it. Which leads me to believe it is the print that I had ( I suspect I took it to the office to be scanned since it was so hard to make a new print ). I know I had it here at home and now can't find it, after two weeks of searching.
In any case, anybody working on the photo could have caused the super-halo. As for the E, I can't see it myself.
The online version of the paper comes out well ahead of the print version.

I based my observations on the print version of the photo in the newspaper, not the version in this thread. Looks like we are talking about the same picture but one is an orange and the other is an apple (printed vs digital media). I incorrectly assumed Brian’s post was from a scan so I went to my hard copy printed source to have a look. You can definitely see white letters from the back side coming through in the hard copy version. Maybe it’s time I start using the on-line version of the newspaper!

So I guess it will remain a mystery. I thought I had an explanation as I understand Glen to say the glow was not in the original photo he took.

This does go to show how topics can easily get turned around when people assume they are talking about the same thing but turns out to not be the case.

Bottom line, great photo Glen. Did you get your shoes wet or were you appropriately ‘dressed’ for the location?

We seem to all agree that we see good things in our Escapes.

I took my shoes off, but that's all. Had to hike back up the hill to the car in wet jeans.
Interesting story that we learned years after the pic was published is that the "family", mom and kid, and dad, were separated at the time and that they ran into one another, that day, at the beach.

Whether on purpose or a fault of the printing, I still like the halo - it goes well with the guy's hairstyle...
