Times have changed. We used to get pay as you go phones or sim cards in foreign countries but now our provider has various international options which are much more convenient because we can keep our home number.
We have a 7-Eleven pay as you go plan on another phone. It's reasonable and there are options. But as Tom says, to get the best plan is going to take some work reading the small print in the plans. They don't make it easy to compare plans.
