Blogging and Upcoming Holidays or Long Vacations

Hi Everyone,

I often get emails from people who are looking to see an Escape in their area and unfortunately the nearest Escape is 4 - 5 hours away.

I know several people are currently travelling across Canada or taking long holidays and sometimes they create a blog of their travels. Where can we go on the forum to find these blogs or arrange a meeting with an Escape owner.

This question is both business and personal as Reace and I are trying to plan a trip to Alaska for next August and I would like to create a blog...I have never done this before. And second is to read someone elses blog or comments on a trip to Alaska of what is a must see, hints, cautions etc. Is a blog easy to do? Do you have to subscribe to something? How secure is it? Help me with some guidance please

For the business aspect it would be nice if I could easily refer someone to someones blog so they may be able to arrange a tour. I don't know if this is an inappropriate request but I am curious as to some feedback from those of you that have travelled...

Inquiring minds want to know so I am going to the best place for the information I seek.

Thank you all for your information.

Tammy

Re: Blogging and Upcoming Holidays or Long Vacations

Ooooohhhh, what a great question! I would love to read the travel blogs too, could they be linked to this forum somehow?? or maybe have a topic within the forum and everyone can post their links to?

A trip to Alaska is on my agenda too, the Yukon and up North. Fantastic area, so I am told. The only thing I have heard is that the mosquitos are HUGE in the summer months.

Ill be watching this thread on the blog info, thanks.

Cheers,
Nadia

Hi Tammy,
We don't have a blog as such, but if you click on the little earth icon under the picture of the Girls to the left of this, it'll take you to the Shutterfly page Norma has set up to share our trip pictures.
It's pretty nice....you can add comments to the pictures and link to other web sites.

Re: Blogging and Upcoming Holidays or Long Vacations

You have, broadly speaking, two choices. (1) You can host a blog with a service like www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com or (2) you can host your own. You can host your own on the same server that hosts your web site. Personally, I would recommend that you use blog.escapetrailer.com. Your web guru should be able to set it up for you. Wordpress, in addition to hosting blogs, also provides blogging software that you can install on other servers.

Once it is set up, you just type your words and upload your pictures.

Setting up is very easy with the Blogger and Wordpress hosting services. Self-hosted set-up is much trickier. I have done it, and, since I always have to relearn everything, it typically takes me a weekend to get it right. Here is one that I set up at the request of a friend, but ultimately decided not to use: http://rrmc1985.net/ That took a whole weekend, and I am satisfied, but not ecstatic, with it.

Again, your web guru would be your best starting point.

We're using www.blogger.com on our now-under-way Yukon trip -- not expert enough yet to give any help, though, but it looks simple, and uses your G-mail log-in info (if you have a G-mail account).. Meantime, great idea, Tammy, & we'll be in touch!

Re: Blogging and Upcoming Holidays or Long Vacations

Although I don't separate blogs by vehicle type, I have hundreds on links to blogs that are updated anywhere from daily, monthly, etc. to finished. You can use the search function to attempt to find specifics that I or the site owners used in their descriptions. I know there are at least a few that cover travelers in fiberglass trailers - Come April 21st, there will be one more (mine!)

If anyone is interested in adding their blog to the list, email me the link & I'll add it.
