bugs!
We're at the beach and felt creepy crawlies all night. We woke up to find a million ants in everything! Don't want to use insect spray because of our travelling cat and found out good old windex does the trick!

That does not look like fun. Do you know what they were after? Maybe they just wanted the comfort of an Escape.

Good one! They got into the cat food and all in the bedding. Ann's is ready to blow but we're getting things back to normal. It's been really hot and dry, maybe that's got them on the move.
We sprayed bug killer around the tires, jack and stabilizers.
Only way to salvage the day is to take off to Disneyland! Enroute!

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to keep the dog food in the car, so I don't have unwanted company.

Some form of solar cooking I guess!
I've heard ants won't cross a chalk line, and don't like corn meal.

Greg, Ants are usually after water in this weather, and then after food with oil in it. I know it sounds crazy, but I used to keep shallow cookie sheets filled with water around the cabin during hot, dry weather - no ants. I assume it would work with a trailer. Also, you have to put stuff like kibble into airtight containers. Get the perfect size food-quality plastic bin and lid from Smart 'n Final in SM or SB. Good thing it's not worse critters!

I grew up in ant country and remember my mom putting all non - refrigerated food, both human and animal in airtight containers. I recommend the Lock & Lock brand. The lids stay on even when dropped, as I can attest from plenty of experience. Also nice if I forget to put one away and it falls off the counter.

I had two experiences with ants in my Casita. It was in Florida so might be different situation. The first time we found where they were coming in and did all we could to stop the army by using comet powder around the base of the awning leg. It worked there but they kept finding new spots to enter. They made a nest in the door and I had to take the door apart and spray poison. (this was once I got home from Florida)
This year in Florida it was tiny ants that got in and I chased then like crazy early on. This time they built a nest in my XM radio sitting on the dinette table.( I had to through away the radio)
People down there told us we should use Vaseline on the cables and such where they might enter. I will try that on my Escape next year in Florida.

Some variety of southern ants, known as fire ants, will bite and leave a nasty bite mark.

Hi: cpaharley2008... Another type of ant in Florida is the "Ghost Ant". You can't see them unless you're still...and they move!!!

Stoney, they crawled up one of the wheels and found an orifice to get in. I crawled around underneath but could not find the spot where they came inside.

Windex works great! Kills on contact but they will come back.
We had if you could imagine black granite countertops. I would see a couple of ants...spray and wipe only to find a thousand on the paper towel. Tried spraying along the grout line in an attempt to keep them out. Thought if I could wipe out their "trail scent" it would work....nope. They actually made it into the freezer and ice maker. Yuck.
Good luck

Granite counter and ice maker in the stick house. I was confirming that windex does work well in a pet home.....and there is no rhyme or reason as to why the ants frequent weird places.
