That is dedication, good for him. The roaster I use is the size of a small toaster oven, so too big to bring, but I have thought of using an hot air popper. Though, there is getting to be lots and lots of coffee shops that roast their own beans, and sell them. I bought a pound of good Ethiopian fresh roasted in Sitka, which was very good.

Thanks yardsale. I hear ya about the cleanup. I think I'm just going to hold off on final decision until I'm on the road. My Build Sheet is due tomorrow. My family just leaving today after three days of non-stop visiting, sightseeing, etc. so haven't been able to have quiet time to figure out the last minute details. I'm glad I'm "flyin' alone" on this but it would be nice at times to share the decisions.

Hario Skerton Ceramic Coffee Grinder | Williams-Sonoma
Way cheaper than other grinders mentioned. Doubt you can alter the grind however.

Agreed! Although -- haven't done it in a while but sure do love black coffee and a bit of Bailey's Irish Cream! And now that I think of it, will have to do it again once I'm on the road with my new little Escape, sitting by a river, in the evening, watching the water flow by. Oh yeah!

Does it have a 12V plug? Any chance of a test cup when you stop in Cleveland? Just kidding. Well . . . kinda.

Blasphemous, I tell you.
If we were camping together, you would have to drink your coffee with my wife, or Doug from Claresholm. LOL

12V? LOL

AeroPress® | AEROBIE® High Performance Sport Toys

I don't use the AreoPress like they describe to do it, but change it up somewhat. I have developed a method I like which gives two good cups of Americano style coffee.

Ellen, it's sorta like a French press in that you press the water through.... But no grinds get through. And yes... I will keep it easy within reach so you can see/try it! No electric plug needed!

Good luck on your final details.... It's all good no matter what!!!

Well, will be looking forward to that!!! Many years ago a liquor salesman told me that Carolans Irish Cream was much better than Bailey's and at a much lower price. So I decided to do a taste test. It WAS better!!! So bought Carolans from then on. What I'm getting at is: when I meet up with you guys some day, I'll bring the Carolans!
And drink a cup of black coffee with you in the mornin'!

FYI. There is a best before date on Bailey's Irish Cream.
Had to pour out most of a bottle.

Now that is a sad thing to hear. Good lesson learned though.

That is not coffee, that is a coffee flavoured sweet drink. Since I was a teen and first drinking coffee, I have only drank it black, with the exception of cappuccino or a mocha. But, for my morning coffees, nothing beats that sweet, sweet aroma, and delicious taste of fresh ground, fresh brewed black, black coffee. Liqueur in my coffee, no thanks, but I will take a glass on the side.

We ground some coffee ahead for a 5 day canoe trip last September for convenience sake, and it was not too bad. I made a couple cups with it upon our return, then made a couple cups with fresh ground. Oh my god, the flavour profile was WAY broader and livelier, a huge taste difference. My wife put the rest of that ground stuff into the compost.

Seriously, by far the most important component to brewing a good cup of coffee, no matter what method you use extract it, is using fresh ground beans. Another very important aspect of this, is to get the grind right for the type of extraction you use. Coarse for Cowboy, Medium for French Press, Medium Fine for AeroPress, and Fine for Drip.
Reading this forum plus a testimonial from my son and daughter-in-law led us to get an Aeropress. After trying many variations based on advice from other users, we came to the conclusion that our Melita drip coffee produces more flavour (all good) using the same coffee, but uses almost 30% less to produce the same strength brew.

Right on Bob! We use the Melita, but have to admit it is more work than I like so we're gonna give the 4-cup Cuisinart that Dave Macrae uses and hope it works well....it does use a cone filter at least.
