Comfort of dinette for sleeping
So how comfortable are those foam cushions when used as a bed? I'm imagining I would need to add a memory foam topper?

Hi: Lynn L... When our thirty something daughter travels with us she uses the dinette area. I put up a shower curtain spring rod and a privacy curtain for her. So far no complaints about comfort. Alf

Thanks Alf. You must really love it when your daughter joins you. Great idea of the privacy curtain😉

My friend Judy slept on the U-shaped dinette in Ten Forward for a week when we went to the ETI rally last year. She said it was very comfortable.
BUT, comfort is subjective. Some need really soft, some of us can sleep on bricks. I do know I've taken plenty of good naps on the dinette!

The wife sleeps on the converted dinette every night (the way we use our trailer requires it). We've gone on month long trips three times. The cushions were "acceptable" the first two trips. For the third trip we added a foam topper. It upgraded the comfort from what it was to "plush". I suppose it all depends on how much comfort you need.

I was wondering the same thing, but since Dirk is sleeping on it, I'm not too concerned. He can sleep on anything. Totally disgusting, if you ask me. I need my comfort (which, of course, costs a lot).
Just in case he needs more comfort than the cushions provide, we have several ThermaRest inflatable air pads that I plan to bring for him that he can shove under the sleeping bag.
Depending on how thick the memory topper is, I'd be concerned about storing it when the dinette isn't used as a bed. So, that's something to consider.

We used a memory topper on our u-shaped dinette the few times we needed extra sleep space. It was just too bulky to carry and put in place.
Would love to find an alternative to the topper....the ThermaRest inflatable sounds like it might work....can you share your experience with the ThermaRest?

Yep had 2 ,the Extreme 2 in thick thermorest .Sold them long ago . Have trouble with foams etc. have a Select Comfort at home 15 in thick with everything including latex topper . In trailer also have latex topper over air , sold trailer mattress . Have a lot of trouble with mattresses. Finally in trailer can sleep . The seat cushions for a bed need something else . I guess kids can sleep on them . I used to be able to sleep on a floor when I was younger . Now everything hurts ,need support but soft . To be fair never have found any RV cushions real comfortable . Just my thoughts .Pat

I won't be using them till we get our trailer this fall/winter. So, can't give a report until then. I got them years and years ago and used them a few times and they worked just fine.

I'm thinking that I will use a twin size memory foam topper(have one)on top of the dinette cushions. Then in the morning I will lay it on top of the mattress and make the bed up as usual. No one is the wiser and I will be oober comfortable!

The original pads are too firm for us. We have resorted to 3" of foam on top. We keep it set up as a bed in our 17 so don't have to confront the significant storage issue which arises if we wanted to convert to a dynette. As discussed earlier, two thermarest pads might suffice for comfort and be easier to store.
