Command Strips

Has anyone ever used a removable command strip hook on the "non-wood walls"? Not sure what the walls of are made of (vinyl?) or if they could accommodate a command hook for a very light item.

Yes. I have 1 1/2 lb, 3 lb and 5 lb. hooks.
Just read and save the instructions for removal. If you don't, you will damage the surface.
Pix show hook and removal.
My wife hangs her coat and several dresses from one 5 lb. hook.
I like the brushed nickle for living area and white plastic for the shower.

Thanks for the photos and info. What about the cabin walls that are the tannish color material and not wood. Would they work there?

We use them all over the paneling. They work very well. Just take a little alcohol on a cotton ball and wipe the surface where you're going to place them. We use the hooks, and also just the strips for hanging things like small picture frames.

Short answer is you need a hard and smooth surface for Command hooks. The walls are covered in a pliable vinyl. So no.

3M has improved the temp resistance of the adhesive used in Command products; it used to often fail above 110F (think of a stored trailer in the Southern US.) Now they claim 125F:

They also have a line of Command Hooks for wet environments, like showers.

Yep, we have a hook there for the shower squeegee and a Command Hook Soap Dish. They work very well on the fiberglass.

Small picture frames, shower squeegee-- dang, I need to up my game here; my trailer is very utilitarian. Where would I hang pictures anyway?

Well Mike, there's tons of empty spots on the paneling. We don't like it to look cluttered, just homey. One small frame we hung is an embroidered likeness of an Escape 19.

I can speak from experience - they don't stick to the vinyl! I'm even having trouble getting one to stay on the wood. Do others clean with alcohol first? I don't want to damage the surface.

I've not done anything to 'prep' a surface. Never occurred to me, and some have been attached for eight years.

You won't damage the paneling or the gelcoat by prepping it with alcohol. I do two things. First, wipe the spot with Isopropyl alcohol, and second, when applying the strip, use steady pressure and hold it firmly in place for at least 30 seconds. Works very well, and we have never had one fail.

Also, be aware that 3M offers Command strips and hooks for different weights. Some are for lightweight things and some for heavier. Use the ones that are appropriate for what you're hanging.

How did you mount your paper towel holder? I have one but haven't mounted it yet because I'm not sure what fasteners to use.

You've given me hope. I did prep with alcohol, etc and they still feel off. First time I've ever had problems.

I must comment on the embroidery. That is one fine work of art. I can't imagine how someone captured the Escape so well. There's some serious talent involved.
