Default Stove

Trying to finalize our build sheet. Confused about stove options. What is the default stove? Is it a 2 burner black stove with hood?

Yes that is what it is on the 2016. I think it is the same for the 2017.

I opted for the 3 burner stove top. So far, I've not used the stove top at all.

On the 21 2017 the default stove is black 2 burner.

We are going to pay the $50 (due to a custom cut) to have it turned sideways. This gains a bit of extra counter space.

Yup, we did that and are glad of it.

Does the 2 burner come with a cover?

I'm not sure.... however even if it does, I'm doing to do a simple thing where I buy a wood cutting board bigger than the burner assembly, then mount 4 short legs onto it (each leg likely with a rubber foot to prevent scratching) then simply stand that cutting board over the stove.

voila - a bunch more counter space. Useful for making salads / sandwiches / whatever - especially on hot days for lunch when we just want a quick cold meal.

You really do not need to turn the stove 90 degrees in the 21 as there is plenty of counterspace and with it in the stock position there is room for canisters between it and the wall. The stock is 2 burner black, optional is 2 or 3 burner stainless with cover. The black vent is standard, stainless if you upgrade to stainless stove. I had the 3 burner set up in both my prior Escapes and never used all 3. I'm going with the 2 burner ss to match the sink and delete the hood.

I dont think we 'need' to turn the 2 burner 90 degrees, but we want to, to gain a bit extra counter space.

You have never seen my wife cook. There can never be too much counter space. She is a magician and likes as much space as possible to cook.

and

what do you mean by 'canisters'?

There really is no gain to the amount of counter space by turning the stove top sideways...just a shift in usable counter space. Canisters are usually metal or glass containers that hold flour, sugar, etc., but I think CPAHarley means it's a very good area to place salt, pepper, oils, vinegars, etc.

Exactly Karen, your useable space is the same, just in a different configuration and it is possible with the stove turned 90 degrees you lose some useable space over what you gain.

I don't agree with your definitions. To me the prime real estate is the space between the sink and the stove. To me, the area behind the stove, maybe usable for some, but not for me.

For us the extra counter space between the sink and stove wasn't as important as being able to cook in two pots or pans side by side. No reachover from a hot pot or pan to get to the other one while cooking. As for the counter space, my upcoming install of the Dickinson should help with that because it will sit flush with a cutting board insert.

On our 5 day trip after pick up we only used a 2 burner Camp Chef Ranger hooked to the quick connect option outside on a folding aluminum table. Weather permitting I think we'll be using the Camp Chef outside most of the time. Kinda wish we had gotten the 3 burner Camp Chef and a giant wok. We could really stink up the woods with some stir fry.

2 burner:

3 burner:

We store the 2 burner under the bed from driver side storage door in a stackable steralite plastic box we got at WalMart. Someone of the forum showed a picture of the box used for storage. Thanks for that.

In my 17B I have the three burner stove ( use one ) and stove cover. We don't put anything in the space between the stove and exterior wall, because then you can't open the cover, or you have to close the cover to access that space.

Cooking on a 90 degree turned stove is no different than cooking with all the burners going on your stove in your sticks 'n bricks. You don't reach over, you reach from the side. I use the space against the wall to flip up my wood stove cover. It protects the vinyl from splatters and heat.

Ron, I agree in the 19 where the counter space is limited, but the person who mentioned turning the stove 90 degrees was getting a 21' Escape where counter space is plentiful, thus the response.

Yesterday, I measured the two burner stainless steel stove in Ten Forward.

18-1/2" x 13"

by turning to portrait, I gained 5-1/2" of usable counter space. It may not seem like much, but with a larger sink I wanted to get back what I had lost. Even if I got the standard sink, I believe I would have done the same. I don't think there's any such thing as too much counter space in these trailers. I have ZERO regrets that I made this decision. YMMV
